Arzberg Bavaria
Question:
Anybody see something like this dish set? It must be what might be called a luncheon set. there is 6 or 8 plates. 8 cups and saucers and a tea set with cream and sugar and 6 salt and pepper shakers. it is in excellent/perfect condition. on the back it says "24 karat gold platinum" in a circle and there is a crown over a shield that has a "P" and an "A" in it. under the shield is written "Arzberg Bavaria" I tried to look it up on line and the only thing i saw was 2 plates that did not look like there was as much gold on them as my set has. the cups are completely gold and the plates and tea set have an inset in the center which is probably the platinum and on it is an embossed picture of a gentleman taking a ladies hand as if to dance. the are in, i guess, victorian or civil war type formal clothing, no color just the, i guess, it is embossed platinum, Any help would be great thanks Answer: Please post a picture or two. Answer: does this help Answer: Yes, that helps but I am having trouble finding anything. They are German, that I know as I lived there. They are very nice. I will try to keep looking for you. Maybe my books have something. Have you tried Kovels site yet? Answer: That looks like a tea set to me; a very nice porcelain tea set with all the accessories. From page 114 of Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain: 1710 to the Present by Robert E. Rontgen, that is their mark # 728. Caption: Porcelain Factory Arzberg Arzberg 1927 - green underglaze From pages 376 and 377 of referenced book. Arzberg Bavaria, Germany Lehmann & Rossberg, 1890-circa 1898, operated a porcelain factory, producing household and decorative porcelain, coffee and tea sets. About 1898 Rossberg left the factory which changed its name to Porzellanfabrik Theodor Lehman (Porcelain Factory Theodor Lehmann) Porcelain Factory Theodor Lehmann, circa 1898 - 1904. It was acquired by Porcelain Factory Schonwald in Schonwald and became its Department Arzberg, 1904-1927. After Porcelain Factory Schonwald was taken over by Porcelain Factory Kahla in Kahla, the company's name became Porzellanfabrik Arzberg (Porcelain Factory Arzberg) Porcelain Factory Arzberg, 1927 - present. This name was kept when Porcelain Factory Kahla merged with Hutschenreuther AG in Selb in 1972. Well, wasn't that a mouthful? Seems this company has gone through a few owners since its creation. Bottom line is (according to mark and the author of the referenced book), IMO, the mark shows that your pieces were made after 1927 and the mark was still used then Porcelain Factory Arzberg merged with Hutschenreuther AG in 1972. Who knows, the mark could still be in use today. Hope that helps some. to here and the Pottery & Porcelain Forum. Click on the blue bar along the left to view the gallery images. Their prices tend to be on the high side but they are a good source for identification. They give it pattern # ARZ35 and no price. Best thing I can say is, take the set to an appraiser. I don't think I'd part with that set without knowing its true value. Is this the set? http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/...221#la-image-4 Answer: here offers a link to an online appraisal service. Answer: Try this pattern.
