asking for help identifying this
Question:
HI: I am so unschooled about this kind of pottery, and I think it is old. Could someone help me with it, Please? It is a jug like pitcher, I thought it was willowware, but now I'm not so sure. It is very heavy and thick. The color is strange, instead of white is seems to have a greenish cast to it and the blue is quite dark. The bottom says "Ironstone" It measures 6" high x 3.5 across the top opening, not including the lip. It is maybe 6.5" across the middle. It weighs 2# 4oz. At the top of the mark between the lion and unicorns head does it say Victoria? Scroll down below where it talks about Wedgwood to Victoria Ironstone on the site I linked to below and read it. Your mark isn't 100% exactly alike but it's dang close. What I don't know is if there was ever really a real Victoria Ironstone. That's the question I hope Dale or someone else can answer. Real or Fake Staffordshire Pottery? Victoria Ironstone auctions. I ran into this problem looking at some pitchers and wash basins that I thought were RS Purssia because of the mark until I saw the exact same pitchers and basins that were marked Ironstone England. Dale set me straight. LOL This is the site she sent me to. It a good site. Purssian Fakes Answer: It's a repro. I went into an antique store one time...the kind that scatters repros in along with the real stuff. They had tons of this stuff. And they were charging prices like it was real flow blue. Needless to say, I gave the guy an earful about how unethical it is. I see shops that do that with the repro Roseville too. Irks me. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
