Can you help me identify this vase?
Question:
Hi... I'm a marble collector... not a pottery guru. I recently acquired a number of antiques, including this vase. Any thoughts on maker, era, value? Thanks for any and all thoughts and help. John Answer: Hi, welcome to here..... Looks like R.S. Prussia to me, but I'm (by far!) no expert....Typically RS pieces are marked as such....http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/SaleSearch?sofocus=bs&satitle=r.s.+prussia&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC5&%3Bsspagename=h%3Ah%3Aadvsearch %3AUS&from=R7&nojspr=y&pfid=0&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&fc l=3&frpp=50 Hopefully one of our resident experts will come along and help solve the mystery..... Whatever it is, it IS beautiful! Answer: Phoenix24, I appreciate your prompt response. It really is a super looking piece. I've had it for about 6 months now, and just don't know what to do with it. I didn't dare thik about selling it if I didn't know what it was, and my son says I should keep it. R S Prussia sounds intriquing! Thanks again, John Here's another pic... I think I'm getting the hang of this! Answer: How big is it? Are the flowers hand painted (can you see brush strokes?) or are they a decal (can you see tiny dots if you look under a magnifier?)? Not RS Prussia. At first glance I'm guessing it's going to be an Austrian piece. Many of those are very nice but don't bring the money that RSP does. Jo Answer: Hi Jo, Thanks for your reply. It is 10 1/2" tall, and 5 1/2" wide. The flowers look to me to be a decal. I see tiny dots, so I assume that means not hand painted. Hope that helps! John Answer: John, I think you're fairly safe to list it as an Austrian piece. If you see dots, it's a decal. Large Austrian Vase w Roses & Gold or something similar would be my title. Just put in lots of good pictures. And describe the gold loss. That's a biggie with some buyers and not so much with others. I also put a disclaimer in when something is unmarked (with country of origin or name). Something like, "We believe this to be made in Austria but have been unable to confirm so you must rely on your own knowledge, not ours". Works well. Good luck with it! Jo Answer: OH! Get double handled or dbl hdl in title if you can, too. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
