Eeeekk! Scary Pottery! Head Vase?
Question:
Presenting for your entertainment, from a local box lot, this Indian/Native American planter (?) or head vase (?) or lobotomy victim? It's actually got good detailing in the face and a nice glaze (one glaze chip on side), but the colors are pretty intense and the shape of the opening is just plain bizarre. The rim edge is entirely unglazed, as is the base. Did it have a lid at one time, ya think? It's about 4" high. The dark spot on the base may be an old moisture stain; it doesn't go through to the inside. Any thoughts on the maker or purpose? (other than to scare small children) TIA Michelle Answer: A prototype for chia-head? Answer: Could be, mag. But I think chia-pets are more attractive than this guy! Answer: Prototypes are often not-too-lovely, but I'll tell you, I think some kind of trailing vine would look pretty nice growing out of that head. Has the wandering Jew plant been renamed to something more politically correct? Anyway I think one of those would look great. Answer: I'm about 90% sure that this guy used to have a lid that was a full Indian war bonnet. Not 100%, because I'm remembering this from an auction preview a while back, but that's kind of an unforgettable face, y'know? I wasn't about to bid on that particular lot, LOL! Answer: It might just look nice, with the verigated green and purple leaves. I have one that I've been trying to kill for years. Anyway, a trailing vine might look lovely with this fellow, but it won't be at my house - He's staying in a box as long as he's here! Answer: It's just been a REAALLY rough year for him, AND they discontinued his regular blush color & he hasn't found one he likes yet.......he pulled his hair out in frustration over the choices. JK......he is an interesting looking fellow, but I'd leave him in the box too........ Answer: Oh- Hi, Deb, I missed your post before. I think you are probably remembering right about the warbonnet top. He must have had some kind of lid - the cutaway around the top is just so odd shaped! LOL at flutterbees! Answer: It's probably a good thing mary kay has passed away, cuz she would have died went she seen this man make up. Answer: It's the bottom half of a vintage humidor - probably from the late 1930's or early 1940's. Ugly, but collectable - especially when the lid is included, Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
