Have to Share My Lusterware (plus elephant question!)
Question:
I want to share the group photos I took of the HUGE lot of lusterware I won at auction last week. <doing happy dance> I sorted it all out and cleared off my top storage shelf to get it all up where I can see it - there was so much I felt like I was drowning in luster! It's mostly pre-war Japan, with some Czech pieces in there too. Oh, and the figural dog tobacco jar I won recently is in there too One of the pieces is this cute little Japan elephant figure - he's probably later post-WWII but he's still cute. I just can't figure out what he's supposed to be. At first I thought he was a flower frog, but the holes are in the strangest places - on his sides, under his trunk, and along the base in back! Then I thought maybe he's a pie vent, but he has too many holes, and the porcelain is too delicate - heat would crack it. Anybody have any ideas? Maybe he's just a badly designed flower frog, circa 1950s? Michelle (PS elizdale, if you're about, our thoughts and prayers are with you this week). Answer: Air freshner holder??? You know like baking soda??? Lou Answer: A Pie vent? Like a pie bird. Answer: Sorry for my delay in getting back to this thread - I've been swamped - paddling upstream it would seem, trying to make a living in this crazy biz. I don't think it's a pie vent because it's too fragile, I think it would crack in the heat. I bet it is (part of a) baking soda container or incense burner, probably missing it's base. Oh well, it's cute - the tusks are broken anyway so I don't think I'm going to get rich on it. Michelle Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
