Ceramic Roses w/Beaded Wire Attachment: What are they used for?
Question:
I was hoping someone here could tell me what these are used for. They are ceramic, hand painted, about 1 1/2 inch from petal to petal, the beaded wire attachment span is about two inches. My initial thought was a hanging from a lamp shade, but they are kind heavy for that... .7oz each. I found 18 of them in a gorgeous Castle china set, but they don't appear to belong there. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Answer: I found out! A helpful person on another forum said they are rose prisms for chandeliers, most commonly from Spain & Italy. In fact, I found a chandelier on Ebay that had these same roses! How cool is that? Answer: VERY cool! You have a link to that one on ebay? I'm having trouble imagining it. Answer: Helen, I recently sold a chandelier in my mall booth that was from Portugal that had those rose prisms. Those roses are not as easily replaced as a regular prism, so I am sure there are people out there who need them. I got $600 for the chandelier so I am sure the roses are a good item! Answer: Those are to die for!!! Answer: check these 2 chandeliers out... I think this is like what they were on... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7415385126&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7415557010&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 the second photo is pretty dark... you may need to copy it and lighten it up to see the roses... Answer: Awesome! I didn't even see those two! WoW! $600 for a chandelier, it must have been gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! I love these little roses; they are beautiful. Here's a link to a chandelier I saw it on, too. Do you really think these could be Capo di Monte? How could I tell if they were? http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-Brass-Ce...QQcmdZViewItem Answer: Yep, if the fixture is Italian they're typically Capodimonte. I happen to have one listed now that has big White Roses...not the dangling kind but attached (glued) to the gilt iron 'vines'. Answer: Helen, I had posted a photo of my chandelier here at here but seem to have deleted it. It was different from the ones in the photos that have been posted. There were several colors of roses on the one I sold; mostly pastel pink, green, yellow and blue. Capodimonte was the first thing I thought of when I saw it at an estate sale. I didn't find the Portugal mark on it until I got it home and cleaned it up. Answer: Originally Posted by helen4709 Awesome! I didn't even see those two! This is really beautiful, too. I was interested because I do some wire-art, mobiles, stills, and this type of rose would be wonderful to work around. I recognized the little chandelier wires and crystal prisms that were attached. I have used old prisms for a few wire pieces. However, there is sooo little time to have a hobby these days and I am one mobile/gift behind already. I also noticed that there is at least one person on ebay making/selling repro roses with gold/goldtone wires, presumably as replacements when the originals break. Just curious.
