English Abbey...pink transfer ware...
Question:
Does anyone here know about English Abbey? My mom sent me home with 4 boxes of assorted pieces. I love it and have most of it displayed on my hutch. It's the pink transferware...but I have no books on it, nor have I started any research on it. I won't have time until after the June 3rd wedding... If anyone has web sites about it, or basic knowledge, I'd appreciate it. I'll take some pictures when time allows... Answer: A Taylor, Smith and Taylor (TST) pattern. TST is from Chester, WV, and was in business from 1901 until 1981. The company was sold in 1972 to Anchor Hocking Corp, then closed in 1981 due to a depressed market for dinnerware. Are you sure it is pink? I think it is referred to as red. The pattern appeared on several shapes. Of course, the above could all be moot without seeing the actual marks. Answer: Updated to add some pictures: Here's some pictures. Any more comments would be appreciated. Answer: Well, it's TST, but I don't know which shape, even if there was a shape name. At Replacements, you'll see this pattern in four shapes. http://www.replacements.com/webquote/TSTENA.htm It looks like the Fairway Shape (1934-1940), but Harvey Duke, in his pottery and porcelain book, states that "With the exception of Luray, Vistosa, and Coral-Craft, TST seems to have abandoned specific shape marks in the 1930s."
