Deco Girl Figures - Any Clues?
Question:
Hi all - I've had these 2 ladies sitting around for awhile... can't seem to find anything about them.
They stand 8-9" tall, and they have some hand painted detailing - faces and hair - which is fairly nice. The semi nude girl has faint impressed marks or writing on the base, but I'll never be able to tell what it says, it's just too faint. The first letter might be a G (for Germany?).
My guess is that they are made in Japan or Germany cheaper knock-offs of better figures (such as Goldscheider or Rosenthal or Royal Dux). Maybe circa 1930s? Or would they be more likely 1950s or later?
I am in the dark...
(second figure photos are in my follow-up post below)

Here's the second one, she's more of a tomboy -

I have no idea about the origins of those figurines, but I have to say I'm having fun thinking what the conversation between the two of them sounds like.
lol

lol goodworks, that's hilarious! They're sitting up on a shelf together - I'll have to try and listen in the next time I'm passing by.
Answer:
My guess would be German and 1930's, but I can't give you any useable information.
Kind Regards, Kevin

Kind Regards, Kevin Well, your guess is as good as mine, Kevin! Thanks!
(bumping this up for the evening crowd)
Answer:
Can you somehow post a clear picture of the lettering?
Thanks

Gaby Hi Gaby - That first photo of the base of the semi-nude figure is as clear as the lettering gets, unfortunately! I wish it were more readable, I would be able to get a better idea of the maker.
Answer:
Would it be possible to do a rubbing? You know, like they do on tombstones? Sometimes you can get incised things to be clearer with that. (Although I have no idea how you'd do it in such a small space...)

(Although I have no idea how you'd do it in such a small space...) I made a pathetic attempt at it, but I'll have to get better paper and a piece of lead or something. It's very narrow and also concave, so it's not easy to do.
I think I'm going to list them as circa 1930s, possibly Made in Germany, dime store figures.
