Black Vase & Picture Reduction
Question:
hello i'm new to this forum and have a question about a black or possibly dark dark brown vase inherited from my mother's collection. there is a mark stamped on the bottom of the vase. it is FGW with the number 1703 under it. anyone know the maker? the vase is quite ornate. it stands about a foot tall and has two handles. i have pics but the files are to big for this forum. thank you if you can help Answer: Did you try uploading the photo files? The software is supposed to automatically reduce the size so they'll fit. (I've never tested to see if it works that way...) (Scroll down to manage attachements area - hit Go Advanced if you can't see that section) Answer: F.G.W.................Fairmount Glass Works/Company, Fairmount, IN (1889-1906) & Indianapolis, IN (c.1906-1968). Mark used from c.1898 to about 1920? http://www.myinsulators.com/glass-fa...tlemarks2.html Answer: goodworks, my jpgs are too big. no automatic reduction. but thanks for the advice. tanya, thanks for your suggestion, but it's not the one. the FGW stamped into the ceramic vase is just straight capital letters. any suggestions as to how i can reduce the size of my pictures from anyone? the pictures are fine for ebay but not this forum. Answer: can anyone help me with advice on how to reduce the size of jpegs. my pictures are too big for this forum?? Answer: Do you usually edit your photos? Do you have Irfanview or some other photo editing software? http://www.irfanview.com/ (It's free and works very well. I've used it for years.) If you download it I can help you through the (easy) steps to edit... Let me know. What kind of error message are you getting when you try to upload photos here? Does it tell the size of your photo and then say it should be 800x800 or less? Answer: Is the 'ceramic' similar to Wedgwood BASALT or is it simply a black glazed porcelain? If it is semi-matte and black thru and thru I suspect it is basalt ware (could be English or American) If you can't post a pic, please describe it for us. Regarding the double-handled shape: classical greek or roman vases or urns...? Is it Victorian in nature...overly ornate, mourning/sentimental, trumpet-shaped...? Does it have decoration....floral decals...reliefs..? Or if you have the photos hosted somewhere on the net, you could put a link here and someone else could resize them. Or you could email them to me and I'll put a couple up here for you. Click on my name to send a message and I'll write back...then you can send the photos... Answer: Photos from leemelon Answer: goodworks; thanks for uploading my pictures. now that they are posted, does anyone recognize the FGW hallmark? i saw two urns on another website with the same hallmark and the appraiser thought they were early 1800's but had never seen the hallmark before. he suggested that they might be worth $1000.00-$2000.00 for the pair but did not know for sure. he did seem sure that they were not scandinavian.
