6.5" tall and 4.5" diameter (not including the crude handle)

I've been calling it a jug. Could there be a "technical" term I am not thinking of?

Don't know if this is any help - from the look of your jug it could be! It's a make it yourself place in Northampton, UK. Your jug is definitely hand-made, and either expensive hand-crafted craft pottery, or something weird by an amateur. I have found vague references to an American Studio 5, but with no info available. And there are various craft potters working in studio 5s in larger buildings, but they don't tend to use it as a brand name.
