Heath pottery
Question:
I picked this up yesterday and thought the piece was lovely on it's own. It is signed Courtney Heath. I know it looks like Heath pottery from California. The signature looks differnt than the regular Heath sig though. Anyone have any ideas?
Answer:
Jenny, I've never heard of Heath pottery before. Though I really don't see much California pottery in general near me. I have California Potteries The Complete Book by Mike Schneider and Collector's Encyclopedia of California Pottery by Jack Chipman and they were of no help with your vase.
I did find Heath Ceramics, Inc. of Sausalito CA listed in Lehner's Encyclopedia of US Marks On Pottery, Porcelain & Clay and I see what you mean about this mark being different.
I wish I could help you id your pretty vase.
Anymore I shy away from buying anything I don't already know about because I usually spend too much time on it to make it worthwhile! Though I did just sell a tiny pink and green drip glaze vase I bought at Goodwill for 50 cents for $13.00 which was more than I thought it would go for since I didn't know who made it.
Good luck!

Answer:
I understand about investing time into research. This vase just attracted my eye because of the thistle pattern.
I got curious also. It's a game for me to figure this out. One time I walked walked into a thrift and walked out with a Sarreguimines for $4 and sold for $90 and Blenko sand blasted vase $4 and sold for $45. Sometimes buying what you like pays.
The other thing I wondered about was the name. I was wondering if this was a relitive of the original Heath in California?
Anyway...

Here is a link to Heath pottery. It's from North Warnborough near Odiham in Hampshire. Hope it helps.

Answer:
Great site Diann.

Jenny, your pictures are too small for old eyes.
Answer:
Hi,
Sorry about the tiny photos. I had to downsize to post the photos here. If someone can suggest a way around this that would be great.
Thanks for the link to Heath pottey in Great Britain. I think that the pottery that this takes after is in California though. I found a couple of references to it on the web last night but nothing clear cut.
Thanks,
Jenny
