help me identify this back stamp
Question:
hi i have a beswick miss moppet but have been unable to identify the backstamp can anyone help and give me some idea of its value thanks Kelly Answer: Hi Kelly, welcome to here. I can't help with the value but there is a very good site that may help you with the backstamp. Beatrix Potter figurines backstamps Answer: Hi Kelly, Can you give us a picture of Miss Moppet. She came in two versions; a mottled brown cat or a brown strip cat. The 1st version is the mottled brown cat with line number Beswick # 1275. Royal Doulton figurines by Beswick were produced under license from F. Warne & Co. Ltd. Beswick, England. All Royal Doulton Beatrix Potter figurines are retired hence more valuable. The smeared section of the backstamp reads "F. Warne & Co. Ltd. Copyright." Beswick in Gold with a circular Beswick mark. Bestrix Potter in upper case type, and character's name in italic script is circa 1948. If yours is the mottled brown cat, the 1995 USA book price was $250.00. If yours is the brown striped cat, the 1995 USA book price was $65.00. to here! Great site Hattiemarie. I think hers is the BP-1, but will not know until we see the cat. Answer: thanks guys heres a few more piccys i picked it up at a car boot for 10p Answer: That's the striped cat version. but from the backstamp on your cat, and the copyright date on mine, yours could date from 1954. According to Hattiemarie's site, the circle mark was 1948-1954. According to the base of my (much later) Miss Moppet, the copyright is 1954. Which doesn't give much margin for error in dating, in my opinion. Double your money - I'll give you 20p for her..... Seriously, you've got a bargain that beats the one my mother got when she bought a disgusting looking three footed plate thing with a mistletoe pattern for 65p, and sold it again two hours later for £15. (It did say Lalique on the base - she actually sold it cheap but reckoned that wasn't a bad margin.) Answer: so is it a bp1 as the base stamp would indicate? does anyone have a pic of the mottled version as i cant find one anywhere? heres a few mor piccys Answer: Backstamp is Bp1. Cat looks mottled not striped, now I can see the back view. Mine is definitely clearly striped. Still go for 1954 as the date. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
