Help with porcelain figurine mark
Question:
I am a new member and so grateful to have found this site. I hope to greatly increase my knowledge of antiques through posts in this site. I am an antique appraiser and several months ago I did an appraisal for a lady whose living estate had the most unusual pieces I have ever seen. Because of the rarity of most of her pieces, there were numerous items I was unable to verify. These figurines were two of those pieces. I have exhausted all of my resources both in books and internet sites, including all sites listed here. I am attaching a picture of the figurines (approximately 13" high) along with a line drawing of the mark. It is an incised mark approximately 2" x 2 1/2" and is very deeply incised. The only information the lady could give me was that she purchased these in a New Orleans, La. antique shop 30 years ago. Any information anyone may have on these will be greatly appreciated. Answer: Hi Martha, Do you have access to Rontgen's book on Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain? If so, take a look at page 274 at mark #2268. According to the book, that mark is for Pottery Works Kandern (Tonwerke Kandern) in Kandern, Badenia, Germany (1915 - present). That make decorative and utility pottery. to here. Answer: I would like to see a photo of the mark on the base of the figurines...(wondering why there is a graphic drawing instead of a photo...) Sorry, I'm a really bad photographer and have never figured out how to ajust my camera to get a good picture of a mark. Trust me, the line drawing is exactly the way the mark looks except that it is incised. Thanks for looking at my post. I have the book on order and should be receiving it some time this week. That was one of my guesses from a web site. Martha Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
