Anyone know who made this vase?
Question:
Need help on this one. No mark at all. I think it was made for a military reunion, but no idea when.
Answer:
The vase looks like a style used by many potteries. What does the writing say on it? I can only read 135th Infantry (I believe). Does it have emblems and writing all around the vase? This one may be hard. I wonder who used that type glaze. I'll look in some of my books. Sorry, I cannot be of more help.
Answer:
Hi Elizdale,
It has writing all around, the side above is the 135th INF, in the shield is To the last man and in red near the bottom-somewhere in Italy. One edge side has 34th DIV and the other 5th ARMY, the other side is the seal of Florence.
Hope this isn't too many pics.
Answer:
34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division Band.

Check this out.

Play up the vase was given as an award by the Band. If it were my vase, I'd link that site in the auction and wouldn't care who made the vase.

The Thirty-Fourth Infantry Division Band was formed January 1, 1944 by combining the band of the 135th Infantry regiment ... and the band of the 133rd Infantry Regiment ... The 135th Infantry Band served in Northern Ireland, Africa and Italy, and claims the distinction of being the first American band to play on the soil of Continental Europe in this war.... The Thirty Fourth Division Band looks back on the year 1944 with a feeling of pride based on achievement as evidenced by a record of 501 different engagements played to an estimated audience of 258,500 enlisted men, officers, nurses, and Wacs, of the Thirty Fourth Division and the 5th Army. To the undisputed title of the "oldest" band in the theater of operations in length of overseas service has been added, in the opinion of many, the "best" band in this theater.
Answer:
Hi Elizdale,
Thanks for that link, I was so focused on who made it that I neglected to do the military research. I read the link and was able to follow through to a lot more info about the "Red Bull Division", but I couldn't find what would link this specifically to the band rather than the unit in general. Did I overlook reading something?
I was planning on pottery first, military second-but you're right and I will take your advice and concentrate on the military aspect.
Thanks much.
