help needed with speed queen iron
Question:
I just want to say hi to everyone. I haven't been around much the last couple of months as we have moving and are still digging out. I was scoping out all the new thrift stores here and one of them had something interesting stuffed in a small dark corner. It is a vintage Speed Queen Whizz-iron & it looks to be from the 50s. They are asking $50 and are not sure it works, it has the original cloth wraped cord and it seemed a bit frayed on the end that plugs into the wall. It seems to me that quite awhile back someone mentioned that they had something similar & it would fetch a pretty penny. I've searched the archives without luck & I'm pretty sure it has been deleted. I have of course checked Ebay, but only found someone selling an advertisement for it & google didn't turn up much either. My question is: Is it worth it to pick it up? How much of a pain will it be to ship? closed Ebay auction for speed queen advertisment ************************ My SYI auctions My Ebay Auctions & My Half.com Listings My Amazon Zshop Answer: http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif It's one of those presses that you roll folded or flat linens through, right? I think it was MelBay and she found it at an auction. But I'm not sure it was this brand. I'm pretty sure all the archives from this forum are still in place. Maybe Mel will come by and tell us the name of her press. Are you buying it for yourself or to resell? The cord can no doubt be replaced if you plan to use it rather than display it. goodworks1 at ebay Get your gift SCRUBBIES and Learn-to-Quilt Kits here! Answer: It's called a mangle if its for big items. I have an ironrite model 88. I wrote to the guy who has a website for them some time ago. He said thats the model that he has. I guess it's the best model, because its such a nice cabinet. I've never had a chance to use mine..I use it for a tv cabinet. http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif I know mine would be a huge pain to ship...it weighs a TON! _________________ #2172 Answer: I was thinking of buying it to resell. I don't really need something like that, my speciality is books. Looking at the listings for mangles, most selling are Ironrite & closing for $150 if they state that they work & my luck would be this one doesn't & I can't afford a $35 door stop. ************************ My SYI auctions My Ebay Auctions & My Half.com Listings My Amazon Zshop Answer: Yup, it's a mangle and Goodworks has a great memory! I was the only gal at a saloon auction. All the guys were there for the bar lights & stools & such, and when they brought that mangle up all the guys just looked at it like it was from Venus. I bid $1 and won it! Yup, it's a mangle, and I think it's the same as mine - I'd have to go home & double check for sure. I got a new cord put on mine because it was dangerous ($100) http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_eek.gif and I love the silly thing. Don't use it much but it sure comes in handy. Man, is it a power hog! Anyway, search eBay for them. Shipping would be horrid! I almost miscarried my first child helping DH get it out of the truck. I'll poke around & see what I can find as well. Fun topic. http://members.aol.com/melbayone/thread.gif Melinda Answer: Mine is an Ironrite. Here's a closed one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2552230517&category=36 4 Just look up the completed auctions - it all depends on the shape of the thing. $50? Boy, I dunno.... Can you talk 'em down? I'd be scared to death of the shipping hassles..... http://members.aol.com/melbayone/thread.gif Melinda Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
