antique doll clothes question
Question:
Well here I am again, being a pain with more questions for the fabric experts.
I recently obtained an old leather doll body and in the box with her were some old clothes. I know the previous owner-who is in her 80's and these were her aunts.
My question is do these clothes have value and should I list them? If so how do I describe them? They aren't perfect- some damage on a few. Some will fit the 10" body, but the long dress with gathered bodice won't unless I am doing something wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Answer:
I would think, and this is based on previous sales of antique doll clothes patterns, that these items would sell rather well regardless of condition. As for the description, wander through the antique doll clothes patterns and actual clothing. I know, takes time, but well worth it.
Answer:
Earlier this year I sold a large 63 piece lot of doll clothes that I bought at the local flea market for $5.00. Though I know nothing about doll clothes I could tell from the fabrics and styles the clothes dated from around 1900 through the 1950's. The had been crammed in a cardboard box and stored in an antique for years. The majority of the pieces were slips and underclothes like some of your pieces. Every single piece in the lot was damaged in some way and they were in all different sizes. I took several photos and explained my ignorance about doll clothes and gave an honest description of the fairly poor condition. I was amazed when the lot sold for $63.00. And the buyer was quite pleased as well.
I can't help you much with the descriptions but I'm sure the clothes do have value. Good luck!
Answer:
Thanks y'all. I'll give it a shot.
Answer:
The one that does not fit looks like it goes to a fashion doll. They have tinier waists [and are generaly more valuable]. They are nice clothes and should sell just fine. It is hard to find original clothing .The leather body could have belonged to either a China head or Bique head doll....too bad there was no remnant to tell.
At any rate I would be sure to mention bisque head dolls in your listing and give good dimensions.
Good luck!
Answer:
I've sold old doll clothes before, and have done quite well. I would list them separately and give exact measurements. (very important)
Answer:
Thanks Tina,
I had planned on listing as a lot. So tell me, how many of you think I should list separately?
Thanks to Rawbunzel and the others too!
Answer:
I would list them as follows..
The skirt and blouse together, the pantaloons seperate and each dress/slip seperate.Be sure to mention whether they are hand stitched [the pin tucks on the pantaloons look like they are to me but I cannot see them that well] or machine stitched.
