Help with quilt block ID, please
Question:
The closest that I have found are Arabian Star and Dutch Tile but they are not exactly the same. Is this just a hexagon star variation? I'm still using the Khin Quilt Dictionary, I've just got to find a cheap Brackman book for IDing quilts. I found 4 nice 30s quilts at an auction Saturday. I'm going to get them listed and hope that someone wants them for Christmas presents. Also got a good box of quilt books and I will sell the dups of those that I already have. Can't list them in the Holiday Gifts forum cause the're not really new looking. Joan Answer: Photos, please. Answer: shadowcat, can you see it now? Joan Answer: Looks almost identical to "Blazing Star"..from my Ladies Art Company Book.. Answer: Okay, I take that back now that I put on my glasses..lol. Not like blazing star..lemme look some more. Answer: I'm not seeing it in any of my books. Sorry. I KNOW that pattern though. I sold a quilt in the same pattern before. I have your auctions on favorites...so lemme know when you get them listed.. Answer: Thanks for looking, Tina. Which quilt ID book do you use? I can usually find the pattern in Khin's book but they are really difficult for me to locate. I'll go through it again and see if I've just missed it. I could just call it a hexagon star...I definitely see a hexagon and I definitely see a star. Joan Answer: Well, I have several different books. I had nice copies made up of The Ladies Art Company catalog from 1928 & am selling them on Ebay. It has about 450 patterns & seems to have lots of the older ones..late 1800's etc. Here's one I have listed.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=8146601 891 Answer: Hexagons? I don't see any hexagons at all...just two sizes of diamonds.... Elaine (confused) Answer: I've found several similar pieced blocks in Brackman Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. In every case there are variations from this quilt however. #241.33 (unnamed, OCS) is very similar in that the setting diamonds are large. However the contrasts in the smaller diamonds placement is very different and only half of the 'star' sections are the smaller diamonds. (But if a person knew how to make this star quilt they could easily make the one Joan has) #437.2 (Morning Star, Coats and Clark) has the identical star, but they are set together with hexagons rather than diamonds. This one would be a lot faster to make than Joan's. #3705 (Star of the East, Wallace's Farmer 3/23/28) has a similar star but is set into a square (actually a rectangle) block. The Arabian Star (#255a, Capper's/Famous Features) in Brackman is shown with the large diamonds actually consisting of 4 pieced diamonds. Otherwise it's the same as Joan's quilt. There are three completely different Dutch Tile blocks shown in Brackman, but one of them is identical to the Arabian Star (#255a, KC Star 1931). This block is also known as Star of Bethlehem (#255a, Union Mill Ends). Brackman (1993) is available for about $25.00 plus postage. http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?au... &st=sr&ac=qr Hope this helps... Elaine Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
