Anyone here do latch hooked rugs?
Question:
I picked up a frame today for hooking rugs. It is 24" x 36", and about 30"-36" tall. Birch I think, Made in Canada by Phentex.
I'm not sure if I put it together correctly or not. It has (covered) points along all 4 sides. I thought maybe I could use it to help me put together quilt pieces, but there's no way!
So I don't want it to become "another thing I do not use" - I have plenty of them! What can I do with it? I think it might be too awkward to sell, the box it came in is 4' long by 10" x 4". Weight about 25 (?).
wahhhhh..... Conversion ideas? Anyone need one?
heeeeeeeeeellpppppp!
I'll check in periodically, or you can PM me.
THANKS
Answer:
Eons ago, back in high school I made a latch hooked rug but it didn't involve a frame. Just the backing, a latch hook, and the cut yarn.
Do you have a pic? Now you've got me curious.
Answer:
Yes, please post a pic. It sounds like it is probably for traditional rug hooking. If so, those frames are pretty expensive and you should be able to sell it for a good price. I'd go for it myself, but am guessing the shipping would be prohibitive. Besides that would take up a lot more space than my little laptop frame.
Answer:
I will post a pic, but you'll have to compensate for I am making:
The World's Biggest Potholder.
The frame was just standing there, looking empty, and I had a basket full of thick macrame yarn-stuff, and started looping it around the pointy things...
I will probably give it to Mr Kitty, he likes to lie on textured stuff.
Answer:
What you have there is a Tapestry Loom also known as a Frame Loom. It's for weavers.
Here are pics of some looms:

Hmmm, Jayne, I dunno. It does not rotate to go up straight. It's more a table-top kind of thing. The legs are fixed in place when you screw it together.
I can't figure out the box text. It says: "Murals, Aminals, Cushions, Footstools"
Phentex, Made in Canada. Google only pulled up yarns.
Back to work on my giant potholder!
Answer:
It's not for traditional rug hooking either. I dunno--maybe it's a giant pot-holder maker.

I found this:

Phentex Rugmaking Frame
but that isn't latch hook.
While there I found this:

A 301A Singer sewing machine. Straight-stitch only. I have one nearly identical to this one. A great portable machine for basic piecing, etc. (I know nothing about the quality of this one though....or the shipping rate....)
On that frame you have...
Are those posts pointed/sharp or with heads?
Answer:
GW They are pointed, and the "teeth" themselves are flat. They almost look like glass "points", you know those things they use to hold glass in place? Glaziers points?
2/3 done with the Giant Potholder. LOL - I learned this: Do not lean over the frame too close; you will snag your shirt time after time!
Yep that ebay auction is ALMOST exactly like it, except mine in a lot longer box, and has the 32" legs.

It appeared to me that that kit was a hooking or prodding kit, not the latch-hook type. I think the backing 'fabric' would be pressed down onto the points and then the yarn (or rags or whatever they use) prodded or hooked either from the top or the bottom. But maybe there are 'real' rugmakers around reading this who understand these kits and can explain them to us...
