Advice needed for "gluing" fabric
Question:
Niece is about to turn 5. She needs NOTHING!!! Closets full of clothes, boxes filled with toys. So I am thinking about "making" a bank for her from a gallon plastic pretzel jar. My idea is to cover it in fabric with the pieces cut into differing shapes that show up and put her name on it in a contrasting color. (She does love to save money and right now she just keeps her "dallahs" in her bottom drawer. Dallahs stand for ANY money to her except quarters. Quarters go in the animal grabber. What do I use? Mod Podge, plain glue that is watered down? And do I put a layer of whatever under each piece and then coat them all again? I don't remember how to decoupage! ~~arkay Answer: You described decoupage exactly...put one coat of adhesive down, put your fabric down, then coat again. I found those cheap foam brushes to work the best. And if you want it to be more durable you can keep coating after each coat dries and even sand in between to keep in smooth. I have used Mod Podge and have found it to stay tacky no matter how long I wait. When I made those cigar box purses I would do Mod Podge to start but then used a different sealer...it came in a small bottle and was sold with all the little plastic bottles of acrylic craft paint...it came in glosss or non-glossy (?) finish. I realize this isn't very detailed, (or even all that helpful!), but I'm just on my way out and will dig out the bottle this evening if you want. I think it sounds like a cute idea...imagine how thrilled she'll be if you throw in a handful of coins...she'll think she's a millionaire! Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
