Clothing "Size" Chart?
Question:
I hope this is the right forum.
I know this sounds dumb, but my teenage daughters are growing like weeds and I'm having a horrible time buying jeans for them that fit.
I tend to shop when they aren't around so they aren't always available to try things on and I need a good "chart" to help with the sizing.
They were wearing a Girls size 16, but now they need to move up to the Junior sizes and I admit, I'm clueless.

Hope these help

Answer:
I usually use either the JCPenney's charts or the Lands End charts.
But the real problem is that there is SO much variation in the sizing (no matter WHAT the manufacturers say) that it's nearly impossible to fit something like jeans without trying them on.
I read in Consumer Reports that even something like Lee Riders can vary as much as 1.5 inches in the waist for items than are technically identical....
Answer:
Sometimes the best thing is to measure either the person or clothing that fits them well and take those measurements and a tape measure with you when you shop.
There'll still be some problems with jeans though, because the styles vary so much.
Answer:
I agree with Elaine. A size chart will only give you an idea, but measurements are the key. I have found a variation on measurements within the same stack of jeans, for instance. My dh wears Lees and I take a tape to measure, as he is in between size, so I get the ones with the larger waist measure in the size he wears.
Some of the stores carry what I call "seconds" at a reduced price, but the sizing can be way off.
Hope this hasn't just confused you more - but measure, measure!
Answer:
Thanks sooo much for the information!!
The charts at least give me a starting point. I assumed (and we all know what they say about assuming) that after Girls 16 came Juniors 1. I quickly learned after some online purchases this was definitely not the case!
Now I guess I need to make the girls stand still long enough for me to measure them.
