It's Time For April's Terrific Textile Thread!
Question:
This is the opportunity for all members of here's Textiles/Sewing & Fiber Arts Forum to share some good news with friends.
Did you have a recent auction exceed your wildest dreams? Do you have a wonderful item currently up for auction? Did you make a great thrift store find? Did you snipe a real bargain on eBay?
Don't be shy! This is your chance to boast, crow, flaunt or just plan brag about a recent textile success.

Answer:
I ran a classified ad in my local paper looking to buy fabric and while I've had quite a few unsuccessful calls, I had one last week that was wonderful. A woman just a few blocks from my house had yards and yards of cotton prints (1940's through 1960's) in perfect condition. She said most of them had belonged to an aunt. I bought 90 yards of fabric!
I have a couple more visits scheduled for this week so maybe I'll have another good find. So far, no huge stash of feedsacks like Tina!
I have a few fabric auctions ending Thursday so maybe I'll have something else good to report.

Holy Cow! Sounds fabulous! Any childrens prints? Pictures..Pictures!!!
You'll be listing this fabric I assume?
Answer:
No kids prints!
I have a couple listed now:

None have bids yet, but hopefully they will by Thursday night!
I did get a call yesterday from a woman who has some Holly Hobbie fabric that I will look at later this week. I specifically listed "kids" prints in my ad but I think finding a 1930's or 40's kids fabric around where I live is pretty much impossible.
Answer:
Cuuuuuute. I love the bunny fabric with the blue carrots.
Answer:
Thank you Tina!
What's everyone else up to?

I offered to sell a group of about 15 feedsacks/feedbags for the women's group at my church. They are pretty standard floral and geometric prints. I'll take the fees out and donate my time.
I'm debating whether or not to mention the women's group in the ad. Will that just open a can of worms with ebay if I do so?
Anyhow, I don't have any time to list this week. I'm working out some sort of large display with an indoor fountain and another display with plants in various stages... It's for the annual church conference meeting that'll be nearby this weekend. I'm making the display up as I go along...and spent a lot of time running around to various stores today trying to figure out how to do this without spending too much of the church's money (actually, I'll probably buy the supplies and just keep them for myself when the weekend is over.) I did find out that the pumps that someone lent me were not strong enough to lift the water high enough to have it cascade back down, so I ended up buying one this morning. I will probably use fabric to fill in the displays and cover any hoses and wires (so I managed to pull this back on topic! lol)

Wow, Elaine. You have quite a project going! And I think it would be okay to mention about your women's group, just maybe not the name and other info.
I have my pictures now of the cutter quilt I found. I may take off these appliqued on blocks and use the small pieces for a mini quilt, and maybe I could use the quilt then for a knock-around. I hate to cut up these old quilts, but may use some of it in another project. Any ideas??
Answer:
Just curious, Grace.
Why is this a cutter?
Because the blades on the medallions weren't quilted down enough so they puff up?
What part are you proposing to remove? Everything but the sashing and the squares behind the motifs? How will you reuse the parts?
(told you I was curious! lol)
Elaine
Answer:
I called it a cutter because it can't be used as-is. Too many blocks have to be repaired or replaced. I didn't show all the ones that were in shreds, and there are about a dozen that need help. Also, the blocks did puff up a bit, probably because fabric underneath shrunk?? All the circle blocks (what is this pattern anyway?) have been appliqued on by hand and could be removed if I wanted to take the time. I do love the fabrics and think they would make a great vintage quilt made with all 30s or 40s prints and solids. The allover print is the same on the back and is still in pretty good shape, and I think if the medallions were removed, still would leave a nice everyday quilt. Need to look at it again, tho, to see if it can take any more wear. Edging is still okay.
I have seen pretty pillows and such made from the old cutters, so that may be an option.
Of course, I could just put it on eBay and let someone else worry with it!
