Fabric Store Closeout...
Question:
So I read an ad in the paper. Yard sale on Saturday...ad say's HUGE fabric store closeout. Nice big ad too..They must have spent a nice sum on it. So I think...WHEEE..I bet I can get some good deals. So hubby & I make the 45 minute trek, used up God knows how much gas, & find a lady with about 10 bolts of flannel on a table. The ad also said antiques. I didn't see a single one.
Needless to say, I was disappointed.. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_mad.gif

Answer:
Oh, don't you hate it when stuff like that happens? REALLY ticks me off. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_mad.gif
Answer:
Momma called me to say she was at an estate sale where they had huge bags of crochet yarn and all kinds of material and patterns. DH and I hurried since they were closing up and taking everything to SA.
AWFUL!!! colors of yarns, abot 10 skeins to a bag for $5.00. I mean like avacado and burnt orange and brown.
Doubleknit materials in around the same range of colors.
Oh well, at least she tried and I did get an old book on camellias.

I was excited to read the ad for a local auction of an elderly woman's estate that prominently mentioned FABRIC...until I remembered we had a wedding reception to go to Saturday and I wouldn't be able to attend the auction.
So we go to the reception and about 30 minutes after we get home I am in the potty "tossing my cookies" like I haven't done since I was a kid. I'm suspecting the creamy salad dressing because I was the only one at our table who ate it. So as I laid on the couch all day yesterday while DH had to do the laundry and find his own meals for the day I reminded him none of this would have happened if I would have went to the auction instead! http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif
I have rarely seen fabric mentioned in garage sale ads around here and when I do find fabric it is usually nothing special.
My Mom & I always get a kick out of ads that read "HUGE 5-FAMILY SALE" in big bold letters and we get to the sale and discover we could find more stuff to sell just cleaning out the junk drawers in our kitchens! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif

I know what you mean. Or you see a sign, drive 10 miles down a dirt road to find a pile of baby clothes...ugh..
I'm having a yard sale in 2 weeks. I've got a ton of stuff to get rid off...http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif

Hi!
I just went to what was billed as and "estate sale" Friday. It was pouring buckets when we got there and they had everything under one tiny canopy in the backyard. Nothing was out of the boxes, the boxes were soaking wet, they were still hauling everything out of the house and nothing was marked.
Well, I don't mind asking prices so I picked up a set of three old cassette tapes of big band music (generic stuff-nothing special) asked how much it was and was told $5.00. I laid it back down but I am hard to deter.
I dug some more in the boxes while the 15 relatives were griping about people showing up (they said the announcement was supposed to say 12n to 5p but didn't and said 8a til whenever, this was 10a that I was there).
Well, I didn't find anything worthwhile that I wanted to pay their prices for so I asked if they had more stuff in the house.
Man I asked said "yeah, go on in". So I go to the back door with my umbrella in the pouring rain and try to get in. No luck people pouring out of the house-all relatives. I finally get to the door and ask the lady standing there if they had more things in the house to be told "No! We're trying to get it out there!" At that point, even I gave up, persistant I may be, a glutton for punishment, I am not.
I collected my DH and we left them to it. Bet they didn't sell much that day!
I went on to a garage sale that I didn't expect to find anything at and found bunches of stuff!
So not a dry run after all (pun intended)! YEAH!
Estate sales are hard to find in my neck of the woods. But yard sales are a dime a dozen!

I admit it, I'm a fabricholic....can't stay away from the stuff!! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif About 2 years ago, my husband noticed a yard sale ad in the paper for Labor Day weekend. It said it had lots of fabric..so how in the world could I miss that!!! So...I drove over there on the day and I struck gold!!! lots & lots of gold. Top-notch designer fabrics such as Schumacher, Waverly, Brunschwig & Fils.....yikes it was a gusher :-) I paid out $70.00 & got at least $400.00-$500.00 worth of fabrics still on the bolts. This woman owned a workroom that made curtains, bedcovers, etc. for decorators & her workroom was overflowing with leftovers from customers. I'm thinking of stopping by her house this summer & asking if they plan on having another yard sale. (like i need any MORE fabric)
