Have some madeira, m'dear?
Question:
I now consider myself enough of an expert to know it's madeira, cuz the tag sez so, right? But is this worth listing or should I chuck it? The tag is on an unfinished piece that is obviously meant to be a collar-first 2 and last pic. The 3rd pic is a close-up of the lace on an unfinished blouse or top-pull over. But it doesn't make sense to me. The neck opening is so tiny only a doll or shrunken head could get it on, whereas the size of the collar, overall length of the blouse and arm openings appear to be a normal average womans size. Of course maybe the person attempting to do the sewing was about as talented in that area as I. It's kinda wrinkled, as it's been stashed in a sewing basket for a long time. I don't know what could be done with the pieces, So what say you experts, list, give away, or toss?? Oh yeah, and pray tell, why would you leave the tag on a collar you were sewing/making, whatever??? Answer: If it was me, I would probably list it. Not all Madeira does well but quite a bit does. I had some Madeira wine coasters I bought at the local flea market (I also knew they were Madeira because they still had their tag attached!) and even though they were slightly soiled they did pretty well for me. Answer: I'd love to see all the pieces laid out together. What's the circumference of the bodice? Length of the bodice? It looks really wonderful! (but truly I have no idea or info on how saleable it will be) Elaine Answer: Hi Elaine, The blouse is all one piece-only the sides haven't been stitched together. This appears to be one piece of cloth stitched or sewn at the bodice where the vertical pleat is(don't know the correct term for that) I tried to get some pics in the morning light today. It is about 25½" long. The bodice is about 22" from seam to seam(so 44", right?)-I hope I'm measuring this correctly-since the arm holes aren't stitched, I'm measuring where the scalloped lace edging ends. And then we have the neck opening, a generous 8" in toto?????? The collar is about 15" long by 4". The next to last pic is of the back of the shirt. You can see front cutwork through it.
