I haven't made one, but I did make a crazy hat that way last year Answer: yup, made about 10ish. Supposed to be Christmas gifts 2 christmas's ago. 2 guys got theirs for christmas. everyone else got IOU's cuz I ran out of time. Couple of folks got theirs this year. I still have the stuff for 1 or 2 blankets-cuz I can't remember WHO was SUPPOSED to be getting them..... quick & easy, about 2 hrs each. Everyone that got one LOVES them! Answer: Two pieces of polar fleeces tied together around the edges? Is that what these are? Yes, that's them, I'm looking at polar fleece on the internet and ebay. Some that are selling fleece don't say if it's polar fleece, just fleece and when I ask them they have no idea. I don't want the stuff receiving blankets are made of. I'm going to make some for the new baby that coming this fall. DIL collects eeyore so the baby's room will be Disney and having a had time finding Disney polar fleece. Answer: http://www.kwiksew.com/Cold_Fusion/c...me.htm?H=North click on 3173 to see the hat I made... I see that Kwik-Sew has free instructions to make some sort of fleece blanket. All the patterns on this page are no-sew... --------- Polar Fleece is a bear to define. This is how I think it shakes out... I could go look it up in a couple books I have if anyone wants the specifics... Originally Polarfleece was developed by Malden Mills for outdoor/technical types of applications. It was made of 100% polyester (but with some changes from polyester double knits. lol) Here's a page that tells part of the story from MM's viewpoint. http://www.polartec.com/polarfleece/ Since then lots of companies have tried to make comparable fabrics with varying amounts of success. And a lot of them call their fabrics polar fleece (two words, not capitalized). I'm not sure what all the legal stuff is about, but now Malden Mills also uses the trademarked name Polartec (and some other names for specialty variations of this fabric like Windbloc) and makes fabrics for a lot of companies (you can see a list on their website - http://www.polartec.com/where/index.php ) They vigorously protect this (Polartec) trademarked name. Even if you buy the fabric directly from their retail site http://www.maldenmillsstore.com/ , you can't advertise a product you sew from it as Polartec unless Malden Mills approves your product and licenses you (with a purchase of a minimum of 2500 yds in the previous year)! They do have great bargains here in much smaller quantities for home sewing. And you can call your articles 'polar fleece from Malden Mills' (go figure) Anyhow, here's a quote from the FAQ area of the polartec site: What's the difference between Polartec® and Polarfleece® Fabrics? Think of species evolution. Polarfleece® is the original fleece fabric we developed in 1979 (no, it does not come from polarsheep). After years of continuous improvement, it is still the best fabric fleece available for non-technical garments and it is only available at Malden Mills®, for today's high-performance technical garments we had to innovate beyond basic fleece to provide enhanced durability warmth, wind resistance, breathability and weather protection. That's where Polartec® comes in. Other companies make a 'polar fleece' but they often call it something similar but not exact, like Nordic Fleece, etc. Some of those are high quality. Some of those are of a lower quality. My personal preference is ones that don't feel 'damp' to me. I find that damp-feeling ones don't wick moisture away from your body very well and they feel rather like wearing a large plastic bag over your blanket or jacket... I also prefer ones that don't pill -- that is one of the things Malden Mills has perfected over the years. I also buy specialty fleeces for long underwear and for wind-blocking vests for my dh for work. MM even makes a silk-weight knit that makes wonderful camisoles, etc. All this to say...you won't find Disney fleece at MM. Have any one of you seen it for sale? I'd look at Walmart, JoAnn Fabrics, Hancock Fabrics, maybe Michaels. I think there are a couple of online sites that sell a lot of fleece, but offhand I can't think of the names. Have you tried buying polyester fleece from online shops? Which ones do you recommend? One problem with buying fleeces without seeing/feeling them: Sweatshirt fabrics have traditionally been called fleeces also. But this, as you know, is a very different animal! I'd guess that most of the store clerks really do not know much about the various fleece terms. And if they DO know, they are reluctant to say too much for fear they'll get the info wrong... Elaine (tooooo much info...especially on such a hot day! lol) Answer: There are some cute baby and kid prints on this page: http://www.maldenmillsstore.com/dept...91534124449937 FWIW Answer: Have you seen the new curly fleeces and the shaggy fleeces? Also some with glittery metallic highlights? And sculptured ones? I've been reading about them but just got my JoAnn Fabrics sales brochure and see some of the shaggy ones made up into Halloween costumes like bears, etc. If anyone plans to 'invest' in more fleece, there's a BIG sale this Saturday at the JF stores. Also coupons. Some online, but you have to register at the site. If anyone needs a link, post here and I'll look it up.. Elaine, enabler.... Answer: DIL collects eeyore so the baby's room will be Disney and having a had time finding Disney polar fleece My GD Loves POOH, I am positive my daughter got Pooh Polar Fleece at Wal-Mart. They actually have a large selection of polar fleece. Answer: Thanks, I did finally find the "Sleepy Time Pooh" and should have the blanket finished tomorrow. Next Saturday is the baby shower so I'm doing OK. Answer: Originally Posted by ddhafe Thanks, I did finally find the "Sleepy Time Pooh" and should have the blanket finished tomorrow.
