Baby blankets....what size????????
Question:
I am going to make one of those polor fleece tie blankets for a new baby due in November but what size should it be? I have made regular size for the older kids but not one this small. Amy suggestion?
30 x 30 without the trim or with the trim?
40" 25" ??????????
Answer:
Do you have the fabric already? If so, just cut the largest square you can and then fringe it.
There aren't any baby blanket police
(except don't make the fringes very long for a baby)

(who is sure other people will have other ideas on this)
Answer:
The blanket is going to one of those tied balanket and the edge is only 3".
Here are a few pictures. The edges are tied off. No sewing involved.
I just am not sure of the size it should be. Very easy to make and soooo soft using the polor fleece.
Answer:
The few I have made, I've made a square shape the width of my fabric.
If I am using 42" wide, then I make it 42" x 42"
I would think if your fleece is 60" then 60" square would be OK too.
That way the baby could use it longer than the infant stage.
I don't think there is any set rule for sizes.
Some people like them like receiving blanket size, some like them crib size.
A 60" x 60" is good size but it can also be used as a throw in a playpen
or on the floor.
Answer:
thanks doobee,
It is "Sleepy Time Pooh" so it is more for an infant but I just wasn't sure how big to make it without it being too bulky when used in the car seat. It is a thick fluffyer material than the receiving blankets. November will be cold so I want it big enough but not so big they can't use it.
Answer:
I made a feece "Pooh" blanket for my neice 3 Christmases ago.
I didn't know how big to make it so it eneded up being 1 1/2 yards by 54 inches!! Now that is TOO big!
My brother always teases me that their whole family can get under it to watch TV.
But she loves it. Won't go to bed without it even now. He says every night is a hide and seek search to find. Fortunately it is so big that it isn't hard to find!
I hemmed the edges by hand then handstitched on satin binding. Then appliques on each corner and our names and the date embroidered on the satin binding. I worked on that darn thing FOREVER!! But she loves it and always talkes about it so it was worth it.
Good luck with yours--your neice will cherish it.

I still love Pooh so if it's larger it can stay with her as she grows (just IMHO)! That fabric is soooo cute.
Answer:
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I love the design too. They are doing the room in Pooh and the material is perfect.
The material is60" wide which I think will be toooo large so maybe I will go with 45". Square or rectangle I don't know. If for the crib then the rectangle I think.
Thanks again
