$25.00 a yard? Vintage?
Question:
This auction for 10 yards of "vintage" Scottie dog fabric ended at $256.01! The ad states it is 44" wide. I doubt that it is any older than the 1980's...if that. What do you think? Answer: That's crazy. I think you are correct...looks no earlier than 80's to me too. Answer: Early or Mid 1990s, I'd guess. Do you think it's a woven dobby print? With the scotties woven in? If so, some of those types of fabrics were $15.00/yd when they were new in the store. Those scotties fans are rabid! Elaine Answer: My goodness, that's insane. I have 3 yds of trim that has Scotties (I think) on it. I think I bought it in the early 80s. Do you think I should list it or do buyers only want fabric? What is this type of trim called? Joan Answer: Joan, They are definitely scotties. And you should definitely sell 'em! But I can't think of what that trim is called. Braid? How wide is it? Cotton? Is it stretchy or firm? How much do you have? This should be fun to watch! Elaine Answer: I guess that would be jacquard woven right? I would just describe it as "woven" trim and emphasize in the description that the design is actually woven in and not printed. Something like "Vintage Scottie Dog Woven Fabric Trim, 3 Yds" for the title. Make sure the word "fabric" is in the title. Usually I would not use "vintage" for something from the 80's but after seeing that fabric auction, I say "Why not?" In the description I would describe it as "vintage 1980's" which is perfectly accurate and an appropriate use of the word "vintage". Answer: I'm getting ready to list my trim. I found another piece with more than five yards so I have over 8 yards in all. Should I list both pieces together or do one listing now and save the other piece for later? Tanya, I think jacquard woven is correct but I've also seen some called embroidered. The trim does have long floats on the back. I may call it jacquard fabric ribbon trim or tape, I'll just have to see what I can fit in the title but I will definitely work fabric in somewhere. Joan Answer: Joan, I would list them separately. Quite frankly, I wouldn't even worry about using jacquard or embroidered in the title. The majority of people who click on it are going to do it for the two words "scottie" and "vintage". And remember to include the word "fabric" also. Then in your description you can explain what kind of trim it is. I like the idea of calling it embroidered...more people know what that term means.
