Selling quilt pieces..
Question:
I've noticed that there is a seller who sells old quilt pieces. Its obvious from the auctions that the seller is cutting up the quilts to sell. I know people use them for crafts, but wouldn't it make more sense to not cut the quilts and sell as a whole cutter? When they sell them by the piece, they're not getting much $ for each piece. It's just so sad to see them all cut up. Even if they are damaged.. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif _________________ #2172 Answer: I agree, Tina. It is a shame to cut up these old quilts, especially the hand pieced ones. I have purchased 2 old ones that need a lot of repair and am considering trying to fix them. They are from the 30s or 40s and the vintage fabrics are worth saving. I will try to post some pics when I get back from trip. Leaving today and will be home Monday. Our association is having an annual campout at Sonora and I will be sitting and listening to the music and quilting, of course. Several of the other ladies are also quilters, so it is nice to get together. Grace Grace's eBay Treasures Quail Hill Treasures Answer: Tina, Do you think they are getting less for them cut up than they would if they were in one piece? I haven't been checking prices in that area for quite a while, but my impression was that cutter type quilts (even whole) don't sell for much at all. If this is the complaint thread (lol), I'd like to register this one-- A few minutes ago I looked at the Shipping & Payment details at the bottom of a seller's auctions. Here's what it said (with the actual addresses changed somewhat):
quote:
Seller's payment instructions: Please send cash, money order or check, paypal or billpoint. I accept PAYPAL, billpoint payments to e-mail ******hotmail.com I will wait for all the auctions to be completed. Please order if you want to buy directly from me. I found some old auction templates that had that on them. And finally removed the reference from my web pages, just in time to have to do it for c2it now! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif goodworks1 at ebay Get your gift SCRUBBIES and Learn-to-Quilt Kits here! Answer: Actually now that I'm comparing prices, they are probably making a bit more by selling them cut up. But its just so sad to see them cut up that way. Knowing how long it takes to piece them & quilt them. I can't help but feel bad for the ladies long ago who toiled over it. _________________ #2172 Answer: I think they'd have to get quite a bit more to pay the extra fees associated with additional auctions. I agree with you about cutting up old quilts. I can't imagine doing it. On the other hand, I can see that those quilters might just be happy that their quilt was loved enough to wear it out. I'd guess that in most cases they were originally made because they were needed, mainly for the utility of their family members. (This of course is not true in cases where quilts have been abused by non-caring owners.) My husband's aunt took quilts made by her mother and cut them up to make wonderful teddy bears for all the grandchildren. We have one here. It was a way to use the parts of the quilts that did not have holes and have at least a piece of a quilt for each family member. goodworks1 at ebay Get your gift SCRUBBIES and Learn-to-Quilt Kits here! Answer: This makes me think of what I saw on Jay Leno the other night. He was doing "Jay Walking", talking to people about their cars and what they do in their cars. Of course he asked about sex in the car. One older guy said ya, (but if you put a guy on the spot, what else are they going to say?) Jay looks into his suv and makes a remark, you even have a bed in the back (laughing) They open the back up and here is this quilt. Next to his old toolbox and stuff. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif Some people just don't appreciate quilts! Ebay About Me & Auctions Answer: if their time isn't worth money then maybe it is worthwhile, but I have had cutter quilts got for 50 and 60 dollars, and I am sure I wouldn't get that if I had of cut it up... besides cutting them must be part of the fun to someone who does the crafts from them. and sometimes they might be able to repair it if they have patience and love, and that makes it all worthwhile to me. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif _____________________ Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
