It's Time for January's Terrific Textile Thread!
Question:
This is the opportunity for all members of here's Textiles/Sewing & Fiber Arts Forum to share some good news with friends.
Did you have a recent auction exceed your wildest dreams? Do you have a wonderful item currently up for auction? Did you make a great thrift store find? Did you snipe a real bargain on eBay?
Don't be shy! This is your chance to boast, crow, flaunt or just plan brag about a recent textile success.

Answer:
Thought I should finally get this thread started for the new year!
Has anyone been doing any selling? Any buying?
I just started listing on ebay again and had my first batch of 20 fabric auctions end last night. All but one sold, so I shouldn't complain, but I was a little disappointed in the final price on a couple.
I'm sure taking off as much time as I did hurt my repeat business. Hopefully I'll get back in the swing of things but I'm still a bit disorganized!
Answer:
I've been pleasantly surprised to move several textile related books from my website in the last few weeks. I haven't done any advertising or anything different other than the OCM classifieds and auctions, so evidently that's helping knock loose the stuff at the website that's been just sitting there for well over a year.
One was a heirloom style clothing book and another was a DMC Embroidery book in some European language like German(?). In fact one customer asked me to contact her if I should ever get another copy...
Answer:
Sadly enough, we haven't had too many "extraordinary" textile purchases or sales lately.
The local auction circuit all but shuts down this time of year, and the few auctions that do come up are so packed with buyers that resellers have a very hard time making any purchases.
Sooooo......
Hopefully, this time next month I'll have something to report!
I have been doing some buying on ebay... for resale.
1930's & 40's patterns and lots of aprons. We scored on this one. It had a couple from early 20th C. in perfect shape.
mapledr... you had some great prints in that lot that recently ended!
Cheers

Did you have a recent auction exceed your wildest dreams? Not "yet" (I still haven't listed any of my new stuff), but I'm hoping to have some really great ending prices soon! Remember the rag quilts I made before Christmas? Well, ya ain't seen nothin' yet! I've done some brainstorming and thought up some new ways to make them, and will be listing them as soon as I have several made up. Last time I sold them faster than I could make them (woo hoo!), and I wanted to get a head start this time.
Did you make a great thrift store find? No, but a very kind and generous here'n sent me a bunch of fabric! I've already used some of it. (And I'm working on something to send her in return! )
Did you snipe a real bargain on eBay? Yeppers! I've been buying fabric left and right, trying to find big lots for very little money. Got 19 yards of mostly cotton fabric for $2.00 + shipping just last week! There were a few pieces that I can't use, which I anticipated from the photo, but 95% of it is very nice.
And I'm waiting on a shipment of fat quarters to arrive. Got 60 of 'em for $18 + shipping. It should be here soon. Really nice fabric, too! The stuff that's $4-7 a yard at the cloth store. (The seller didn't put "fabric" or "quarters" in the title, so I'm sure that affected the bidding.)
Also bought approx. 50 yards of all-cotton fabric for $50 including shipping, which is cheaper than the bargain table at Walmart. (I quit shopping at the bargain table, for the most part. The quality seems to be going down, and I don't wanna use poorly-made cloth in my quilts!)
Anyway, my tiny little stash is getting bigger and bigger!
And ... the bigger news! When I start listing again, on my more expensive items, I plan to donate a percentage of the sales to the Endometriosis Research Center. For those that don't know, endometriosis is a debilitating mostly-female problem that can cause excrutiating pain (first-hand experience -- pain so severe I couldn't stand or walk (even doubled over) without assistance!). Endometriosis is the reason I had to have my surgery last year. There is no cure, and there is no guarantee I won't get it again. They don't yet know exactly what causes it. In rare cases, guys can get it too. It affects literally millions of girls and women of all ages, so I feel it's important that we do further research in order to hopefully find a cure.

Well, I actually sold this Bucilla felt kit last month but it was quite an exciting finish!
Of the fabrics I sold this week, this one did the best. It was only 1/2 the yardage I had ... the other half went to the underbidder via a second chance offer. I love it when those work out!
Answer:
Pretty good!
Answer:
Wow, Dawna I can't get over that Bucilla kit. I would have never guessed it would finish that high! That's terrific!
I was very happy with the results of this fabric: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29818&item=6243301 314
I knew it would do well but that was even better than expected.
Answer:
Hmmm ... wonder if I can draw Little Red Riding Hood on some fabric ...
That's awesome!
Ya know ... I need to learn to recognize the "good stuff". As my little stash is growing, I'd hate to cut up something that's worth a decent amount of money!
Answer:
You all have reported a bunch of awesome sales!!!
Way to go! I'm impressed!
