How to sell a weaving loom? Need advice...
Question:
I've owned a weaving loom since about 1986 and would like to sell it in the next few months. I've been PLANNING to sell it now for a couple years, but everytime I look into how to do so, I get stuck.

Have you sold a floor loom?
or
If you were buying one, where would you look?

How do I start?
Answer:
What do you do when you can't remember all the terminology of the item you're selling?

Here's what I've figured out by researching online:
--It's not a counterbalanced loom. (well, I think that's true, if I understand what that is...) No castle, the headles? rise above the frame when you treadle them.
--It's got 4 (harnesses/headles?) and 6 treadles. Most of the chains are there for the various tie-ups. Rope can be used.
--It's got 2 reeds I think. (need to check the sizes)
--Lease sticks.
--Boat shuttles, etc.

(this is all I can think of right now...my brain is 'all out' of weaving terms at the moment...)

The best piece (but not officially part of the loom0 is the warping reel It's wonderful!--what a time saver!!

Recently I've been using it is a quilt rack!

What do you call the thing you use to hold the warp in place (more or less) while you are threading it? spreader? or ?
What's the tool that you use to thread the wire headles(?) ?
I really really hope there's someone around who knows about these things!

On the other hand, maybe I should just say I know nothing, show a lot of photos and see what people ask me.

I really do not want to misrepresent it....

Hi Elaine,
Well, what a hassle to get back into here. And it still refuses to come up on Netscape (I spent two days wondering what was the problem, then thought to try IE -- duh!!!)
Anyway, here's a non-profit website for selling fiber equipment:
Spinners' and Weavers' Housecleaning Pages
I've used it with good results. They won't post pictures, but you can put the pics on your website and link to them. The people who visit that site know what they're looking at.
Here's one I know less about:
Fiber Barter Page
Most of the ads seem to be by the person who maintains the site, but it's worth a try. Warning: Angelfire -- popup city!
Also, where are you located? My local fiber arts guild (Wash. DC area) has both a printed newsletter and a Yahoo group, and local sellers advertise there. You might want to Google for fiber arts clubs/groups/guilds/shops in your area, and see if you can post or buy an ad from them. Tell me an approximate location and I may have a clue. Or maybe not.
Does that help?
Gayle
EDITED TO ADD: how come it says up top that I'm suddenly a "new member"? This is weird.
MORE EDITING: and it says up top that I last visited this board in 1969! Wow, has it been that long? Plus I have to test that attached thumbnail thing. Here goes.

What version of Netscape are you using? I'm using Netscape right now. It works way better for me at this site than at the old one! Isn't it strange how much difference there can be from computer to computer?!

I do vaguely remember that there was such a place. The only drawback I can see is having to know what price I'd like to receive before I post it.

Gayle Yup!
Thanks!
We can deliver the loom pretty much anywhere in 48 states (well, maybe not NJ...costs to much to drive the truck over the border...), so I think that might help sell it...
EDITED TO ADD: how come it says up top that I'm suddenly a "new member"? This is weird. You can get your thread count updated in Crystal's thread somewhere up there... I'll look for it and post it later. Or you can look in the first thread we posted here in the Textile forum when we first migrated to this platform.

This new board originally was dated Dec 31, 1969. That's why there's a thread with that topic in the Community Forum (or whatever it's called...)
Okay, I'm going to post this and see what I need to edit to make it readable! lol
