This is really only about 1/4 of it. I still have 2 huge bags and a box full. The last pic is some sort of old trim that was in the lot. Its linen I think, with like a fuzzy feel to the raised decoration.

Hi Tina,
I think you are pretty close on dating most of these fabrics. I'd guess 1990s for most of it. Some may be as old as late 80s. I doubt if any are newer than 1997.
Here are some ideas/thoughts I had while looking over your photos. Bear in mind I'm doing this from pictures and I'd feel a lot more confident if I could feel the fabrics, hold them up to the light, check the selvedges, and do a burn test...
#1,2,3 - These are likely early/mid 1990s loose interpretations of older fabrics. They tend to not have historically accurate colors, but often the prints are close. They'll sell better if they are a known brand like VIP or Peter Pan or Springs/Springmaid or other similar brands. They might also be a newer Classic Cotton (center fabric in picture #3) or other brands. In fact you could probably find very close copies of most of these at JoAnn Fabrics even today. The navy (center of picture #2) is probably the closest to an accurate reproduction. Is it a P&B?
#4 - Is in the style of Debbie Mumm or Mary Engelbreight (sp?) from the late 1990s. Check the selvedge for a brand name.
#5 - I assume the one on the left is a print and the others are woven? These were popular in about 1996 or 97. P&B made some. VIP also. Maybe Cranston. Are they all cotton? A few years later Red Wagon and IndoChin??? and some other companies made 'homespun' popular, but usually those fabrics are more grayed and darker in color and sometimes come in wider widths (like 52")
#6 - Is the lt blue check a gingham? It's likely polyester/cotton blend. Is the pink plaid printed? The scotty dogs are printed - is it a name brand like Daisy Kingdom or Debbie Mumm? Scotties usually sell well in whatever form....
#7 - Another blue/white woven check. Is it a heavier homespun type fabric? Cotton? The black/white/red glen plaid - is it a quilt weight fabric? Usually this print is a heavier weight. Is it cotton? It could be any age...
#8 - the kitties are cute. They might be quite a bit older, or they might just be a print that imitates an older fabric. What's the fiber? Any brand name or info on the selvedge? What's the width of the fabric?
I'm going to send this now because we've got a thunderstorm brewing here. Don't want to lose it! Back soon!

#9 - The blue on the left is 'timeless' lol. The small stars look similar to a series that P&B still has, but I think it originally came out in maybe 1997 or so. The PA Dutch type motif fabric could be from the 70s or 80s -- hard to tell. Is there a brand name? The blue print on the right - don't know, but probably isn't very old - it does however look like some of the earlier 40s fabrics. How wide is it? Is it 100% cotton?
#10 - lol! I just left an identical piece of the St Patricks fabric at the thrift shop Wednesday. I didn't think it was very high quality (esp. print-wise, but also base fabric). I don't have any other St Pat fabrics, but it might be good in a lot of them or other coordinating colors. The Easter fabrics are similar to some I got online a few years ago. I don't remember the brands.
#11 - You'll always do okay with Cowboy/Indian type fabrics. Flannel or not. These look 90s to me.
#12 - Flannel? 90s?
#13 - Far left one -- how wide is it? This could be older, like 50s, but only if it's 36" wide or less. It could also be a reproduction of a pajama/baby flannel. Center flannel - I really don't know - maybe early 90s? The right fabric is a plisse' - similar to seersucker, but the texture is not woven in like seersucker. It could be cotton or a cotton blend.
#14 - the center stripe looks sort of like a heavy upholstery unbleached cotton with a sort of burlap look. I can't tell much about the other two stripes.
#15 - very nice trim! I'd guess it's older than most of the rest of this stuff. Is the design woven in? Or is it flocked with glue? Is that what you mean by 'fuzzy'? How wide is it?
-----------
I seriously think you should go back and talk to the lady about seeing/buying the rest of her fabric. I'd guess that most of it is older than these pieces. I suspect that these are just the ones she thought would sell the best to contemporary quilters at a yard sale. Oh, and you could probably afford to pay more than $.10/yard if they are in good condition. lol http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif And I wouldn't wait too long. If she has been bragging to anyone about how much she got for the fabric she sold last weekend, they will likely make her promise not to sell the rest so cheaply. lol

Wonderful! Thank you for all the good info. I'll pull them all out tomorrow, dig out the tape measure and check them with your posts. Quite a few of them are Cranston and VIP by Joan Messmore. I thought the small kitten print one looked older. The colors are off a little to the actualy colors of the fabric, my camera is the pits these days. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif I'm starting to feel a bit under the weather here tonight. Achy and such. Hope I'm not getting the flu or something. Ugh.
And your definitely right about going back. I had the same thoughts of the fabric in her building being older. Thanks again, your awesome!

Tina,
Please take care of yourself! Get some rest, drink your water, etc! (sounding like my mother here...)
I think the colors were okay, generally. I recognized a lot of those fabrics from the store where I worked a couple years. Most of the stock there was from the late 80s and 1990s, separated by company and by collection/age. Eventually I knew where to find each of the 12,000 bolts... but it's been 2 years since I broke my back and quit and never went back. So I'm going on a lot of memory here. I thought a lot of the fabrics looked like Cranston/Joan Messmore and VIP. However, many of those have been 'knocked off' by the suppliers to chains like JoAnns. Makes it harder to say for sure without having the fabric in hand, etc.
Anyhow, I'm hoping other folks will stop by and make corrections of my errors. You too, as you look over the selvedges, etc. We can all learn from doing this together.

Hi
I agree with Elaine.
The cowboy/Indian print we sold at house of fabrics. (worked there during the late 80s'/90s') It also came in a large (I mean really large) cut out of the cowboy and Indian.
I would put it in mid 90s'. Same with the DK piece. I still have some of it. If it has a red plaid it might have been part of the Christmas series.
I know Peter Pan is marked on the edge. I have been selling it lately.
The Easter fabric we had at HOF too. And the plaids.
I tried the burn test and all I did was make a mess. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...on_biggrin.gif
So if in doubt about fiber content I just put undetermined with what I think it might be.
I am lucky. Most my pieces I marked when I purchased them from HOF.
Good luck with them! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif

I'm just overwhelmed with RL right now. One good thing, though - just came home from a delicious meal at a German Restaurant not far from here. DH took me out to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary today! So I'm stuffed and sleepy...
But I'll be back!

Depending on HOW heavy these cottons are, they might actually have been made for decorating. However, there are some VIPs (and Marcus Bros, Wamsutta, among others) that are 'beefier', but still would be considered quilting cottons.

I've looked over these again, and I guess I don't really have a lot more to contribute.
If it were me, I'd burn test all the flannel and the heavier cottons or anything that has sort of a greyish/bluish cast to it to be sure you aren't dealing with polyester. i have an 'unnatural' http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif fear of selling poly/cotton blends that I've advertised as pure cotton. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_eek.gif I'd especially burn test the gingham. It's almost sure to be poly/cotton unless it's older than the 1960s.
When listing plaids, be sure to indicate whether the plaid design is woven in or is printed on the surface of the fabric.
Don't forget the ruler or quarter or something to indicate the relative size of the design.
Can't think of anything else. Do you have specific questions about any of these?

Have you gone back to visit that gal yet???
