Hancocks Fabric Files Chapter 11
Question:
I heard this morning from one of my business associates that Hancocks has filed for chaper 11. They will close 104 additional stores, during the restructring phase. Personally I really don't see how hancocks can survive. If they close 104 stores as predicted this will serioulsy limit there reach. On a side note walmat is still planning on removing fabrics from there stores. This however opens the market for smaller companies to sell there fabrics.! --Lauren
Answer:
Thanks for the news Lauren. Our nearest Hancocks was about 25 miles away and it closed several years ago. I really missed it. I don't often buy fabric at WalMart so it probably won't affect me much if they eliminate fabric but my Mom will be very disappointed. She still consideres herself a beginner quilter even though she's been quilting for several years and she likes buying inexpensive prints at WalMart to practice with. Plus there is one just a few miles from her house.
That will leave just JoAnn's and our closest one is terrible. Always a mess and most of the clerks are downright surly though there are a couple that are pretty nice. And the wait to get fabric cut...don't get me started!
Answer:
Our Hancocks is ... well ... unimpressive, for the most part.
The clerks/fabric-cutters are friendly/fast enough, but the store is cluttered and the aisles are very narrow. I have to use my wheelchair in the store since I can't stand/walk for a long time (bad knee), and it's difficult for me to get around in there. Even "standing" people have to go down the rows single-file. Two people can't pass each other. I have to be really careful not to bump into things or knock things over.
Their prices also seem high, unless you happen to catch a sale going on. And there's usually nothing but icky fabrics on their clearance tables. Sometimes you get lucky, though, like buying Valentine's Day fabric after the holiday has already passed.
All that said, they do have quite a few gorgeous fabrics, and things that Hobby Lobby and Walmart don't carry. But usually you'll pay for 'em!
ETA: Oh, and they ASK if you would like to buy the extra 6" at the end of the bolt, instead of throwing it away! (Ain't going back to THAT thread! LOL!)
Answer:
Hey guys
I heard that Wal-mart is not going to be selling fabric anymore. At all. They are yanking all thier fabric departments from every store. I went to one of our local walmarts to check this out, and sure enough it was gone. I asked the associate if she had heard this and she confirmed this. If Hancocks and Wal-Mart stop selling fabric I don't know where all the crafty ladies where I live are going to get fabric. Our Jo-ann's isn't much to speak of.
It's very sad.
