Well, I did it. Told hubby I wanted a sewing machine for Christmas. He didnt do a good job hiding it, so I know I got one. Finally after hand piecing, and hand quilting all those quilts Ive made..I'll be able to get a lot more done in shorter time.

Tina, I just realized I had completely forgotten about the Grab-It stuff! I haven't picked up today's mail yet, but as of yesterday it hadn't arrived yet. Probably just caught up in all the holiday mail.

Well, hubby got me an inexpensive Brother machine. But its really all I need, as I just needed a machine to piece quilts.
I hadn't touched a sewing machine since 8th grade Home ec class, 20 something years ago. It took me over an hour to figure out how to thread it. Then I realized...ohhh yeah...have to thread the bottom too. Then realized...ohhh yeah...thread in the bobbin is blue, I need white.
Then proceeded to teach myself how to put new thread on the bobbin.
I played around with some scrap fabric, seeing how all of the various stitches look. Cool..is working.
So I bravely try to sew 2 pieces together for a quilt Im making for my daughter. It sewed fine, but the finished 4 blocks put together, looked puckered or something.. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_confused.gif. I have the tension on 5, which is recommended for cotton fabric.
How the heck do I keep the stitches straight? I swear it had a life of its own. Did not want to stay on line where it should. Is there a special foot I can put on to guide me? Or is it just a matter of practice?
I swear I am really missing my thread, needle & pair of scissors. Its so easy to quilt when each stitch is done by hand. This sewing machine stuff is complicated...lol.
I'm really hoping to get the hang of it..

Now, about that stitch....
Does the thread look the same on both sides of the seam? Or is one side pulled really tight and tense...?
