hcquilts featured in Country Quilts Fall 2003
Question:
Leigh Fellner is featured TWICE in the current issue of Country Quilts!! (Leigh is hcquilts at ebay and has been very successful selling her small quilts there.) On page 8 is a feature called "Pumpkins And... A Quilting Harvest" with a nice writeup on how she choses fabrics and patterns and a photo of an Ohio Star Medallion quilt that she made with bright reds and yellows and tiny on-point nine-patches. The second feature is on pages 22 and 23, continued on page 66. "No Assembly Line Here! These Quilts are One-Of-A-Kind." The write-up describes how Leigh began quilting in 1998, describes her home and workroom. The two quilts pictured are a strippie quilt with "Double Diamonds" (1800s fabrics?) and a "Tiny Tumblers" which looks to me as though it is made with 30s/40s fabrics. I learned two new things from this article. One is that Leigh "cuts a small square of each fabric she acquires and places the swatches in clear plastic pages in a notebook. Her collection now exceeds 900 different fabrics and she has become an expert at dating them." The second thing is that when she's in a creative slump, she "takes the advice of her artist son to get out of the vintage and into something new. That is when she whips together something new and modern from her stash of dyed fabrics." Thanks to mapledr for alerting me to this upcoming feature so I've been scouring the newsstands for the past few weeks! This is a much, Much, MUCH better article than the previous one! goodworks1 at ebay Get your SCRUBBIES and Learn-to-Quilt Kits here! 20% off thru 8/15 - mention here!!!! Answer: whoops! Answer: Wonderful http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gifI love her little quilts. I've saved a few pictures of some that she has made, for ideas when making my own. She puts her colors together beautifully. I'll have to see if I can find an issue. _________________ #2172 Answer: HCQuilts is featured in another magazine for Fall. The Fall 2003 issue of Sampler Quilts has a one-page spread of this quilt. I am the absolutely thrilled owner of 3 of Leigh's miniature quilts and one of her larger ones (before she went to miniatures). They truly are works of art. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif Answer: maple...just curious. How do you display your little quilts? Did you frame them? _________________ #2172 Answer: Tina, I must confess I don't have any of the quilts displayed...yet! http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif What I intend to do with a couple of the small ones is hang them from shelves that have a dowel underneath. My Dad made a large one for me for a crazy quilt my Mom made me and it looks great. I have a spare bedroom painted pink and two of the small quilts I have are made with 30s fabrics including lots of pink and would look great hanging in that room. That is one of the many projects on my to-do list! The larger quilt I bought (before she started making the really small ones) is made from all late 1800s fabrics and I bought it intending to drape it on the back of our sofa (which is out of the sun and no one ever sits on it!). But about the same time I bought the quilt we aquired a couple of new cats and I realized I could never display the quilt that way if I didn't want it damaged and covered with cat hair. So I'm not sure how I will eventually display that one. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
