14K vg?
Question:
I have some little charms/pendants that are stamped on the back 14K vg. Does the vg stand for anything or is that the marker's mark? Thanks and Happy Friday, Marjie Answer: Vermeil gold? http://www.artisanplating.com/faqs/goldplatefaqs.html What does Vermeil gold mean? Pronounced "vermay" vermeil gold is the official industry designation for a heavy gold electroplating over a base sterling silver material. A minimum thickness of 100 millionths of an inch or 2.5 microns of gold must be deposited before it can be marked or sold as Vermeil. Answer: Thank you Platinum. That was wonderfully educational. I think you hit it right on the head. Have a great evening, Marjie Answer: You're welcome! You didn't post a pic so I can't say for sure...but a Vermeil finish is usually a semi-matte and lustery yellow-gold, with a slight texture that is unlike regular gold-plating. oh, and adding that it does have a tendency to chip or flake as opposed to "rub-off". Answer: I am such a ditz sometimes. Here is the pic. It's a very thin lightweight piece. Can you tell by this picture or do I have to do better? Thanks again for your time and expertise, Marjie Answer: Sorry, can't really tell. Put it next to something solid gold or (normal) gold-plated and see if the finish or color is different.
