Cupids and fans and rhinestones and hearts -- oh my!
Question:
Hello, folks. I just found you (I KNEW you had to be out there somewhere!) and hope someone among you can help me ID this interesting necklace. I'm clueless about this area of discussion, but I'd love to learn more. The necklace came in a box of estate stuff, most of it relatively nice. I have no idea of its age, but since it has the S-type clasp I assume it's not contemporary. It was also encrusted with a greasy dirt layer (as was everything in this lot) until I cleaned it. I can't find an identifying mark anywhere. The only piece clearly missing is one of the "tied bow" charms at the far end. The "cameo" has a modern look and seems to be plastic. The look reminds me of Kirk's Folly, but it's too old for that--maybe Kirk, whoever he is, was influenced by whatever this is. The stones are mostly of the kind that reflect multicolored lights (i.e., not clear rhinestones). There are tiny stones of this type even in the belly buttons of the cherubs. The metal is not sterling or gold, but has a slightly bronzelike cast. Can anyone clue me in as to a maker and era for this thing? Thanks in advance!
Answer:
Hello & Welcome to the board.
I have never seen anything like this and will see what I can find. It is always so much harder when there is no hallmark on them. It almost looks homemade to me. At first I thought it was a charm bracelet.
I'll see what I can find for you.
Answer:
Thanks for your note, DeeDee. I don't think the necklace is homemade--it just seems too slick for that. I'll be interested to hear whether you're able to turn up any information about it. It came in box of estate jewelry that wasn't junk--there were several 14k items, an old sterling malachite man's ring marked "made in Israel," a Bucherer watch, and a string of genuine pearls with a diamond clasp. A few costume pieces were also present, but nothing junky at all. Obviously the original owner (don't you wish you could hear the stories behind these lots?) was a person of some taste and refinement.
I look forward to hearing from you if you get any leads on this. Thanks again!
Judy
