Answer: Thank you for replying Beeman. I will be finishing a local cdl school in about a week and am interested in driving doubles on line haul for ODFL out of Greensboro, NC. I understand they are currently hiring. My questions are: 1. Is the pay scale pretty similar to all the other carriers? 2. How expensive is the benefit package? (I took early retirement from a large corporation and can work without benefits if they would be higher from my new employer.) 3. How much TAH can I expect pulling doubles in a line haul operation? 4. Can I expect to be treated fairly? You read so much on here about mistreatment by big carriers as to become apprehensive. Doing a search here and on other forums has not answered these questions and the info that I have found has been fairly old. I have also searched ODFL web site and have not found much more than job requirements and a small amount about training. I appreciate any info you or anyone else may offer. M NEVER GIVE UP!!!! Answer: **** my old post on how I got started Pay starts off at .28 training, .32 1st 6mo .38 2nd 6mo .41 after 1st year, .46 after 2 yrs. Health benefits are free for employee for basic package up to $65wk. for family premeir plan. They also cover prescriptions, and eyes Dental is $2wk. for employee up to $8 for family Also 401K with a percentage match, credit union, sick days, holidays, and life insurance TAH can vary but basically for team linehaul it's 6 out 2 off or 10 out 3 off. Dedicated bid runs can be different. I've been treated fairly and I've seen others treated more than fairly. But that is just my opinion, I'm sure there are plenty that have had negative experiences. We have turnover just like other carriers. I hope I've helped a little, go to the terminal and talk to some of the drivers in Greensboro. If you know what you are getting into beforehand I think you will be pleased. Are you looking to drive team or single? Answer: Thank you Beeman. This is exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like TAH is about weekly and to get more frequent would require higher seniority. My preference is solo. I was a little concerned about going into the terminal since it is fenced and security being the way it is these days. M NEVER GIVE UP!!!! Answer: Are they hiring drivers for solo? Each terminal does it's own hiring so I was just asking, I know our terminal is only hiring for team drivers. Many times team drivers do get to run single but not on a steady basis, it's almost like a casual driver until you get a partner. I know it's fenced as are all of our terminals, but there's always a visitors parking area and I don't think you would have a problem going to the drivers lounge if you ****'d at the frt. first. If you don't want to ask around the terminal just look for the local coffee stop. Last time I was there we stopped at the convenience store right at the hwy. it has truck parking. I'd bet most drivers stop there before hitting the road and many will be glad to talk. I don't know where you live but we have a terminal in Charlotte too. Answer: I only spoke to them on the phone. Personnel would not offer much info only that I could come in and apply any Tue. or Thur. but only after I completed school and had my grade report and my license with doubles endorsement. Looks like I will finish up this week. I live about 25 miles north of the GBO terminal. I'll check at the convenience store on the way back from class tomorrow. I had a gun pulled on me one time when I walked up to an enclosed area without an escort. . I know you aren't that secure but I have been overly cautious every since. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!
