Question:
Lists the top 100 carriers in the country in terms of accidents and overall safety ratings..
http://www.ai.volpe.dot.gov/CrashProfile/Top100-Nation.asp?bysort=6

Answer:
No surprise the largest fleets will have the most accidents, just the law of averages at work. What is interesting is one out every 20 Swift units was in an accident, and Werner is right there with Schneider, and has around 40% fewer units. Most of the rest are fleets with a lot of city trucks, so they will be more accident prone statistically. I am surprised more dweller carriers aren't up there.
Oh well, that's trucking and it's what you make of it.

When your in a Star Car, nothing else is needed to be said

Answer:
Most of the carriers had 4-5% of their trucks having accidents that year. CRST and Central Refrigerated (formerly Dick Simon) and Knight are among the worst, in the 7-8% range.
What's interesting to me is that Swift, which supposedly has bad training, is at 5%. Schneider, which supposedly has excellent training, is at 4.3%. So apparently the quality of training doesn't make that big a difference on accident frequency.

Answer:
I think I would just avoid Central knowing they didn't even go into business until April 02'

Answer:
if you click on the top of a catagory,it will list most accidents in order or fatal accidents in order
werner 8209 trucks 21 fatal
swift 16550 trucks 27 fatal
swift has a better record per power unit
yellow has the same number of power units as werner and 1/3 the fatal wrecks

This stuff can give you some idea how a company operates.Yet you could still work for a bad company and as long as you drive your truck the way you think is safe and don't let some jerk in the office drive it,you will be ok.
Don't be afraid to say NO and if the dispatcher pushes the subject, ask to discuss it with the safety department. Most likely they will back right down and tell you they will have to make other arrangements to move the load.
