A description of your best friend!
Question:
"As a new driver the most important thing you need to know when you are on the road is, your map is your only friend. The dispatcher, he sits at a 100MPH desk. You have a 60MPH truck. The terminal Manager, he has a 150MPH desk, you still have a 60MPH truck. The Safety Director what can I say he is from New York. The Fleet Manager and shop supervisors, they think they own the trucks and it is all your entire fault if you breakdown, regardless of the reason. The broker's, they set up the delivery appointments for your freight two days before you even get the load and want it there at 0800 tomorrow, regardless of the distance. Shippers and receivers, they want to overload you, give you confusing directions and make you wait and wait and wait and......Other truck drivers, they double park at truck stops just so you cant maneuver. The motoring public, they cut you off, flip you off and tick you off. Your only friend is your map. Be kind to your map. Fold it gently. Hold it lightly. Get intimate with your map. Know every line and symbol and number. Spend time with your map. Good maps are the second best investment you can make after you have allotted the max % of your pay to the 401K plan. When a map has reached the end of its useful life, ceremoniously and humanely dispose ot it. Then get a new one. Remember, Your map is your friend."
