Albert Einstein Answer: Nothing new this time of the year, especially the week immediately before and of Xmas. Heck after Tuesday I wont have any freight to haul until the first of the year. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: All I can say is the stores of over full of Christmas stuff. Thats why the big after Christamas sales events. I kind of wish I could convince my family to celebrate Christmas on the 28th. Oh well. Merry Christmas 'Carpe Diem' does not mean 'fish of the day'. One of the pitfalls I guess is not knowing from 1 payday to the next what your gonna get. Truckin' is like a box of chocolates. One of the pitfalls I guess is not knowing from 1 payday to the next what your gonna get. and that is why me and many others reccomend setting up a budget based on 500 miles less than you expect to get (for OTR generally this means 2000 miles per week) and living off of that and then when you have weeks where you earn more than that saving it back to survive the weeks you earn less. Answer: next week will pickup as they put inventory in trailers,so nobody really owns it and they don't have to pay taxes on it,the shipper sold it on his books and the receiver hasn't received it yet,so it vanished inside a trailer. -------------------------- I'v been saved,I'v seen the light,I'm a born again hourly worker, praise the almightly time clock. ---------------------- What are you doing to save for your retirement? Hopefully we will have something soon. Should say you will have something soon as I am still with Diane. Answer: As the end of the year approaches each year, we as an industry experience a slow down in freight. this has happened for many many years. Yes, shippers will load trailers and get them off their property, so they won't have to claim the stock as inventory. And yes receivers will not really want to accept deliveries before Jan 1st. Now the good point. The economy is up and this should help truckload carriers. The Christmas shopping season hasn't been all it was supposed to be, if you listen to Wal Mart reports. When the after Christmas sales start, all hell might just break loose, as these stores will have to restock. Personally, I did 15500 miles in Dec '02 and am sitting at just over 11000 miles right now for this month. We have done our Chrismas celebrating already and volunteered to run over the holidays, so the company would have at least one truck servicing our customers. Hope I'm not alone, as I can't service them all! My wife is going with me so we can spend some more time together. I figure I'll probably get a load out of Kansas City, MO to the west coast and then right back to Omaha, NE to start out with, then probably right back out to the coast, so I should have another big month. With so many people home over the holidays, I think you'll find freight picking up, just due to the fact there will be less drivers available for loads.
