In an earlier post, Stuffs mentioned the danger of
Question:
trying to air up a low tire. I thought I'd re-emphasize it. Airing up a low tire, especially if you don't know how long it has been low, can have disastrous results. The heat and stress of a run low tire weakens the sidewalls. Putting air to it can cause the sidewall to rupture. The force caused by an exploding truck tire can tear a trailor up badly. You're not as tough as the steel or aluminum a trailor is made of and I've seen the entire back corner of trailors torn up by a blowing tire. Much better tolet a shop handle it. Humans require a brain--too bad use is optional Answer: Wuzzy this may seem like a stupid question but will fire it away. My company issues us at hire a truck tire gauge. Which would of course be used to check the pressure durning the pretrip. We are to check every so often durning the day. Yes I know a pain in the tush. But I do know checking the tires is not just "thumping" them. OK so the tires were checked in the morning. Full good pressure, and all that. Check again after being otr a few hours. And one is low. Safe to put air in it..or NO? Yes I do know actually checking the pressure is what one is suppose to do. But really I have never heard anyone say they do. I cant imagine that a company would ok a service call for a low tire. Or will they? Answer: That's an easy 'No'. Get it fixed. The next cycle of going low could 10 minutes later when you are down the access ramp and doing 60, and it shreds, throwing a gator through somebody's windshield and decapitating some kid. Then you will spend the rest of your life in prison, eating oatmeal and washing it down with water. ___________________________ Humans are amazing creatures. Answer: Grin wont catch this granny grunt going 60 down a access ramp.. I dont care much for speed and going down ramps. But I appreciate the advice. I will call the company when I see a low tire or actually have low tire pressure. Thank you! Answer: Bearbell While all tires will lose some air over time, NO tire loses it during the period of , say, a day, without some reason causing it. May be a nail, a bad valve stem, etc. Your tire guage will find out it's leaking if you use it. The problem still has to be fixed. Continous air loss and reinflating will eventually lead to BANG!
