Should I Report It?
Question:
Ok, here's the dilemma. I'm trying to go to truck school soon, and hire on with a company sometime before Spring. As you know, all companies ask about recent accidents and tickets.
Three weeks ago, I was renting a car, and I was the victim of a hit and run accident. I wasn't even in the car at the time of the accident. The only damage was a dime-size hole all the way through the rear bumper cover, along with some scuffing.
Anyway, I had to report the accident to the rental car company, and I'm trying to get my credit card to pay the damage, so that hopefully it won't be reported to my insurance company.
Would I have to report this accident on my trucking applications? If I don't report it, will I be sent home from orientation for falsifying an application? I mean, I wasn't even in the car when the accident happened!

Answer:
in any way for this accident I doubt that there will be anything show up on your MVR. Just to be sure get a copy of your MVR in a few weeks and if it is not on there then dont list it.
This accident is not like one in a big truck where even if a citation is not issued it will still show up on your DAC report.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.
Answer:
Be honest about it. If you aren't and the trucking company finds out you could be fired for falsifying your app.
That will go on your DAC report and NOBODY will hire you then.
I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane.

Answer:
When I took my written portion of the CDL the manual said parking incidents were not reportable. I had a similar incident 2 years ago and it never appeared on my MVR. I wouldn't sweat it.

Answer:
OK, that's one YES and two NO's. Anyone else wanna weigh in with an opinion?

Answer:
I would say the easiest way to real find you is to ask a teacher the School you are going to or ask a recruiter at the company you are looking in to they would be the best judge of if it needs to go on your application or not

Answer:
An accident in the parking lot where you were'nt behind the wheel, is not reportable. It's just an incident. No citations issued, I would'mnt bother with it.
Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off!

Answer:
Look at it from this perspective. Someone steals your car and wrecks it. Are you in any way involved in the accident? Nope! Therefore, you cannot be cited with or charged in any way with an accident. Just to be safe, make a note of what happened in the accidents section of your application! You should have no problem with this since it didn't involve you. You were just the victim. Oh yeah, don't listen to the recruiter, he just wants to get you in the school. He's NOT the safety Department. I know I'll get flack for that, but trust me on this one, recruiters are salesmen and nothing more! It's their job.

Answer:
not sure how things work in your state but here in michigan once you change your drivers lic into a cdl your driving record gets cleared and you get clean slate. but everything u do now that u have that cdl will go on your driving record. plus since you weren't at fault and it was a hit and run i would ask the trucking school b4 you put it on a app to a trucking company.
check into it

Answer:
If you weren't in the car they can't report it.
If they did I'd take 'em to court and sue the F@%$K out of them. and I would.

Answer:
If the vehicle was not occupied when the hit and run occured it really is a matter of property damage for you (for the driver of the hit and run vehicle its a chargable offence)Or if you were not involved as the Driver it will not reflect on your driving record.
The companies are intrested in accidents or violations YOU are involved in not your property (rented or owned)It would be like having to report an accident your wife was in because it was your car.

Answer:
According to a buddy of mine who is a Indiana State Trooper, if the car was parked legaly and you were not in the car then it does not affect you. The accident will get reported but not to your insurance nor to the license branch. It will not affect you.
