Everyone should read this
Question:
"The Diary of a Swift driver" I heard about this web site on the West coast and read it when I came home on Thanksgiving. It starts out where he contacts a recruiter, goes through school, his trainer and his co-driver experience. Then it gives a spreadsheet of all his pay since day one with all of his paychecks and how much he spent on tolls and how much had been reimbursed. Then comes the sad reality of not being able to make the house payments and needing a new career. Why is it that these companies don't care about the financial problems of their drivers and give them the miles to make a 1/2 way decent living? Check out the latest entry of "The Diary of a Swift driver" at http://home.mia.net/~detailer/Search/Diary.htm This family could use more then just prayers. Drive safe little buddy! Answer: Although, I did Not get a chance to read the Entire website, I did read enough of it to say.... That is EXACTLY the reason I Advise newbies to Be Debt Free(or nearly Debt Free WITHOUT car payments) & have at least 6mnths of expenses in SAVINGS BEFORE going to Drving school.(not in checkings...but, in SAVINGS) If you know that you need $1000/mnth to cover your household expenses(rent, insurance, car payment, insurance, utilities, phone bill, groceries, credit card payments, medical insurance, etc), then you should have at least $6000 in SAVINGS BEFORE you even Think about becoming an OTR drvr or BEFORE you make ANY kind of career Change. I do Not advise anyone to borrow money, take out a loan, or go into Debt to become an OTR drvr. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do people THINK they will get Rich as an OTR Drvr? Do we blame the Recruiters for LYING or do we blame ourselves(fellow drvrs), for LYING & "Popping-Off" about the amount they make?(or WISHED they made) Trking is NOT an occupation where you will get rich.(quick or otherwise) ========================================================================= If a person does NOT Stay on a BUDGET, it will NOT make a difference if they bring home $500/mnth or $5000/mnth.....they will STILL be in the SAME situation in the End. Answer: I had a chance to read the Whole website. Answer: but he's hit on several key points about this company that drives (pardon the pun) drivers away.....
