Answer:
do you feel a company school is better than a community college program??and why??
If you HAVE the CASH...by all means go to a Community College(especially if you get college credits or SAVE & pay CASH to go to a private Trk Drving school.
If you do NOT have CASH & Can NOT get funding thru one of the Government funded programs...then, I suggest going to a Company Sponsored school.
***I do NOT beleive that a person should Borrow money, take out a Loan or go into Debt to attend Trk Drving school.***
My PERSONAL Reasons I'm AGAINST Borrowing money & DEBT:
1)Prov.22:7The borrower is SLAVE to the LENDER.
(When you OWE someone money, it puts you in the role of a "slave"...meaning that you must bow-down & take whatever "mess" they dish out to you until you get them paid off.)
2)B/C as a newbie you are Not Sure if you will even like the "Trking Thing".
You may start your OTJ training & find that trking really is NOT for you....then what...you are STUCK with a DEBT from a school whose industry you are no longer a part of.(then, you Really WILL RESENT Trking & end up feeling the same about Trking as some of the sour-pusses on TruckNet do.)
3)Since you usually need at least 1yr Exp to move to a Better carrier, why Not just get your 1yr with the carrier that paid for your school.(some carriers have "Tuition Reimbursment" programs.)
Yes, you must sign a Contract if you go that route, which in a way is a form of "debt"....which in a sense puts you in the role of a "slave", which means you have to put up with their "mess" until you pay them off with your time.(but for some reason I can handle repaying with TIME a little better than I can handle paying HIGH interest rates & dishing out hard earned money.)
4)Interest rates are wayyyy tooo HIGH!(why pay MORE for the SAME schooling that a person paying CASH is getting.)
By Borrowing money, taking out a loan, or going into Debt...you Pay MORE in the long run for the Same Schooling as a person paying Cash.
In MY book...ANY Interest is Too Much Interest.(but hey, they are in the biz to make money)
By paying CASH(up front)...You do Not owe Anyone Anything & you are free to come & go as you please.
Some people feel that company sponsored schools are merely CDL mills & do Not do a good job at training the student.
I feel that some carriers may do a better job than others...but for the most part regardless which route you decide to go...you will not learn the REAL Deal about trking until you finish your OTJ training & get assigned a trk of your own.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
When I went to Drving school we were Not required to sign a contract.(they changed that policy shortly after my class went thru school)
