The 6 month mark
Question:
In just a few days I'll have 6 months with Swift.
Its hard to believe what I've accomplished in this time. Although I have learned alot, I continue to learn more and more every day.
I find that because I am courteous to other drivers and I do like to gab on the CB that I dont get bothered or harassed for driving a 60 MPH truck hardly at all.
I have driven from coast to coast and north to south as well as seen Montreal Canada and experienced the wonderful border crossings. I basically keep to myself and concentrate on what I do and whats around me. This isnt a job for everyone, but it indeed gets in your blood. Your worst day is soon forgotten when youve had some sleep and you jump back in the seat to do it all over again, not knowing what the days events will bring. Its long hours and some weeks low pay as well as very tiring to say the least.
For those interested in a career in driving I think everyone on this forum would agree when I say ask as many questions as you can. Talk to as many drivers as you can. Dont be afraid to ask as many questions as it takes to satisfy your interest.
I will be getting a 500 dollar bonus as well as a 2 cpm pay raise this week. And I was very suprised on wednesday afternoon when I was told to head up to Columbus to get my new truck. I was in a 2001 Classic XL and was upgraded to a 2004 Columbia. Even stioll has plastic on the jump seat and the carpeting in the sleeper. I was also given a 50 Dollar gift card for Sears as Christmas gift from the company.
So all in all it hasnt been too bad so far.
For new drivers or aspiring drivers they should check out www.swifttruckingjob.com if they are interested in swift at all.
They list all the new pay increases and explain the different divisions they offer.
Have a great holiday season everyone.....

Answer:
My first 6 at Swift were OK. Like you I got upgraded to a brand new truck about that time. After that things went downhill real fast and three months later I was hiring on someplace else.
I will always be a mutter trucker at heart.

With any luck you will feel the same way in 6 years. That is about how long it took for me to begin tiring of the BS in this business.
Better luck to you...
