Keeping your windshield clear in the snow.
Question:
When you are in the snow and it is around the freezing mark and the snow is sticking to the windshield, try this. Lower both your sun visors and use heat on the windshield. This will help retain heat at the top of your windshield and keep the snow from building up to much there. One thing to keep in mind though is that in heavy snow fall, you will always have snow build up at the top.

Answer:
most truks have mirror heaters use them. they do help.

Answer:
Also....close your windows, especially your "wing" window(s) if you have them. They suck the air back out before it has a chance to swirl up around the windshield.
When I hit snow and the temperature drops below freezing, I get my heater controls set-up and start pumping air up there. The build-up can happen very fast and the sooner you have your windshield temperature below freezing, the less likely snow will start to stick in the first place.

Answer:
The outside of your windshield freezes-up when the moisture freezes to it. Moisture (snow/spray) freezes when it attaches to a surface colder than freezing. Your defroster prevents stuff from freezing by keeping the outside survafe of the glass below freezing. Snow and spray melts on contact and gets wiped aside in liquid form by the wiper blades.

The confusion is that you need the Windshield
above freezing temperature not below.
That includes the Big Island.

But I fully understand as the stress of driving for a carrier such as WORMER can lead to these episodes...

Answer:
whenever you stop, wipe off your headlights especially when your driving in a state that uses salt on the roads. A frost colored film is left on the outer lense that affects your headlights ability to project outward, decreasing your night time visibility. Keep your tail lights and markers cleaned off as well, you want people to see you from the back and sides when the snow is really coming down, they won't be able to if their misted up from the vacumn effect that your truck creates when going down the road.

About the only thing I like about an FLD, which is what I drive, is the low, short windshield. Keep the visors at least 3/4 of the way down and use the defroster on LOW SPEED. (the visors trap the hot air and create a pocket and a very slow rate of hot air bleed-off) Anything higher and the heat quality is reduced considerably. This will keep your w/s clear and keep snow from building up on the wipers. Also, a film if RainX helps a lot, too! On tall windshields, this isn't all that efficient.

Answer:
Throw some alcohol into the anti freeze washer fluid. Run it through the lines right away. This helps keep the washer lines and nipples from freezing up.
Alcohol melts ice on contact. It will melt the ice/snow off the windshield almost instantly.
Also use it in a spray bottle. You can clean the windows inside and out. Alcohol cleans the road film off windows better that window cleaner and will not harm window tint.
Anti freeze washer fluid does freeze in the lines when the temps get real cold. The 30 below washer fluid is hard to find at T/S's, so keep alcohol with you. I keep about 5 to 7 Qts in the truck during the winter months.
