Ham radios in trucks - Roehl in particular
Question:
Hi! Was wondering if any of the Roehl drivers out here know anything about the policy for these types of radios in Roehl trucks.... ########################################################### I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!! Information is power!! The question not asked is the opportunity missed!! My other vehicle is a '99 Electra Glide!!!! Lead, Follow or get out of my way!!!I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!! Lead, Follow or get out of my way!!! Answer: Your back posting here, does that mean you may be a driver soon? On your question I took a look in the handbook, nothing specific on hams, is it a simple installation? Like a C.B.? ie... 2 wires and the antenae? I know nothing about ham radios. I doubt the mechanics at Roehl would know anything unless you happen to find one who is a ham himself. Drop me an email with your addy and stuff, just came out of Big D on Monday, and have been there many times since returning back to Roehl! Take care buddy! Drive on! bandit58.... Answer: Every company I have worked for had no problems with them as long as they are simple hook ups. Many carriers have policies on amps thou. Also make sure you carry your lic with you. States like Virginia,California, Michigan and If you cross into Canada can be particular. Michigan has given me a problem twice on my scanner. Once I show them My APRS system and give them a copy of my lic I have had no probs. Be real carfull. Many out here will love to steel your equipment. DO NOT set or mount in on the dash. The thiefs and DOT will screw with you. DOT loves to pull you around to see what you got. Especially in Michigan. Good Luck. KC9CFX202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Originally posted by bandit58: I doubt the mechanics at Roehl would know anything unless you happen to find one who is a ham himself. I can promise you the ones at the Gary terminal won't know squat. They refuse to know anything, I think it is a question on their app. "Do you know anything? Y N" If they circle Y they're over qualified and are sent across the road to Schneider. The only ham they'll recognize will be tucked between two pieces of bread. Nah, I am just BS'n. The mechanics there are competent, they just don't seem to be overly motivated. Answer: Roehl probably won't care as long as you don't drill holes or have wires/cables strewn everywhere. They also don't like amps or invertors unless THEY install them. ($75) Thinking about getting one myself. Have a brotherinlaw in Huntsville AL. that has one. (WA9YRH) Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it!Just remember:If the world did'nt suck, you'd fall off! The more I see and read about Republicans and Democrats, the more I wish we had an Independent Party. IMPEACH BUSH!!!!!!!!!! Answer: LOL OMG LMAO, That is soo true about Gary. Give a good example. Had bad alternator, starter, and batteries at Gary, took them 19 hours to replace it all. When some one asks me to describe Gary, I will usually tell them to visualize a Monkey in a barrel making sweet love to a football. Only the monkey has to take a break to chat with the other monkeys every few minutes. You didn't have that done on Monday did you? There was a dude I was talking to that had his batteries and starter changed, and then they decided to change his alternator too. Answer: Sounds like a case of replacement mechanics to me! I find it hard to believe that the starter, alternator, and batteries were all bad at the same time! It wouldn't surprise me if another problem relating to what you had should pop up! I use to see this kind of work done all the time by backyard mecahnics who would replace everything untill they found the problem, when I worked in parts stores, then they would want to return all the parts they had installed! We all know, NO RETURNS ON ELECTRICAL PARTS! Drive on! bandit58.... Answer: I am sure with out a doubt that all of those components were bad. I had started having touble with the solenoid on the starter a few weeks before out in Denver. I had to "tap" and short out the leads to get it to turn over. I also knew I had problems with the alternator, low voltage buzzer would go off too soon imho. Asked to have it looked at when it had a PM in Marshfield, got the usual everything is ok BS. Also this was the truck I was in when I was having alot of trouble with my laptop dying on me. Funny thing is, when they replaced all of those components the problems stopped on my laptop. Does not really matter, not in that tractor anymore, it was 3040. I have since been demoted down to 2765. On a side note, something that chaps my a$$, they have a 7&7 driver out of Gary. He is driving 3366 or something like that. Well he is the only driver of the truck, so it just sits in Gary the week he is home. Frustrating to know that I am national and stay out alot longer and have the older POS equipment. Would think it should be the other way around. Guess that is what I get for thinking. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Answer: Buzz Dog wrote:Frustrating to know that I am national and stay out alot longer and have the older POS equipment." I am new to the round table so please forgive me when I ask How long you have been @ Roehl. I have been there 3 1/2 years and I have a truck with over 500K on it. It run good looks okay so I hapfor a while longer. Answer: I have been at Roehl since May 5th 2003, solo date is June 17th. I just do not see the logic of assigning a newer tractor to 7&7, especially when it sits for 7 days. I would think that the newer equipment would go to the national drivers that stay out longer is all. Now a question back to you. How many miles did your tractor have on it when it was assigned to you? I have been assigned 3 different tractors since I went solo, 4 if you include the tractor I had to shuttle to Iron Mountain. I still had to move all of my personal items and flatbed equipment between the tractors. With the current tractor I am in, I went backwards in unit number. You could say that I got spoiled having at least a 400hp ISX and a mid-roof. Everything was going great for me until I started bumping heads with the "Son-in-law" (Roehl drivers will know who I am talking about). Oh well, it is a new year. Trying to keep a decent attitude. Alot of new tractors in Marshfield getting set up. Just got an aux heater put in my tractor, WOW these things are nice. If you are a Roehl driver and you dont have one yet, get to Marshfield and get one installed, you wont regret it. DRIVER BY CHOICE Buzzdog Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
