CDL Test
Question:
I have a question or 2, I was wondering if someone could answer.....
1. Man Slacks with brakes released have 3/4 inch free play?
2. Auto slacks with brakes released have between
3/8 and 5/8 free play?
3. It also say in the test that you have to check that the slacks are not over 90 degrees,is that with the brakes set,and and does that apply to manual and auto slacks?
hope someone can answer these for me.....
Thank You

Answer:
Only if the brakes are applied...
The reason this method is so user friendly is you can observe this from a distance and verify the integrety of your brake adjustment....
However this does not allow you to completely inspect you entire system... the proper technique would be to measure the throw of you brakes form the set (or applied) position to the released position... There is a chart in the back of your FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) handbook. This chart Identifies the tolerances that are allowed by federal standards... Not necessarily the CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance) Standards, which are the guidelines that most enforcement officers abide by...
Hope this addressed you question...
Safety First... Prepare yourself... Then your equipement...
