Prime
Question:
On a recent trip out I-40 to NC, I saw what seemed like more Prime trucks than anything. I've read a lot of negative on Prime. It seems to be sort of a universal online thing. Anyway, it seems to me that most of the criticism has to do with the lease-purchase thing. Forgetting about lease-purchase, what about their company driver jobs? What's the good, the bad, and the indifferent?

Answer:
I spoke to a recruiter with RTC (Prime's "company driver" Co.) I asked her to send me an app and pamphlet so I couls scope things out, and was told that they are not allowed to send out any information. Their application process is done strictly via e-mail or fax.
Well that right there made me a little aprenhensive. They will get you to Springfield,Mo for orientation, then you get a trainer for I believe it was 6 weeks. After that you are with another "newbie" for anywhere from 60 days on up, depend on the safety department. I don't remember what you are getting paid running "team" but once you get your own truck they start you out at .30 cpm.
Starting at .30 cpm sounds good...but they are associated with Prime. I've spoken to a few Prime drivers, and like everything else on earth some swear by it..while others swear at it!

Yeah, that sounds odd. But then again, I've come to expect odd as the norm in this bidness.

They may be swearing at them, but there's an awful lot of people driving for them too..hehe. But from what you've said, they don't sound much different from Trans Am. One exception might be that Trans Am doesn't require that much "training" time (about 4 weeks, max). Another plus with Trans Am is that they don't (as a policy) use trainees as team drivers. The trainee is supposed to do as much of the driving as possible, as if he were solo.

What up guys!"
Do you think Prime Company will be a better choice than Prime.inc lease deal. Im going to them ive got great info on stayin away from the lease thing, but you never know it might for me.
But inn the company position, did you get hometime.
I know it should be much differnt than lease'n,they said 4-6 weeks out,3-4 is cools, but you must stay out more if you lease right?" Well thanks whoever answers it

One husband/wife team just got promoted to recruiters for the company, plus they gave them the use of a custom motor home to travel the country and visit truck stops.
They made thousands of dollars while driving a truck for Prime and signing up other drivers, they got great recruiting bonus's on top of the driver pay.

Answer:
lease a truck from a company. Period. End of conversation.
First you are not an "owner-operator" when you lease a truck, you are merely renting it. Most of these companies that lease trucks are passing along the older, higher mileage trucks on to people who want to be owners.
It is a lease. You do not own the truck. You get to pay them to use their equipment. At the end of the lease, just like when you lease a car or truck, you have nothing in your hands except air. Oh sure, you can purchase the truck from them...for about twice what it is worth. The people who are successful at Prime are the ones who have excellent business skills. They are very few and very far between.
Most of these companies do not report this lease to any of the major credit agencies. So here you are, John Q. Bigrigger in you lease truck acomplishing absolutely nothing.
One Prime driver TaxiBob and I talked to in Chicago was on his way to New Jersey with a load that paid 2.00 per mile. He said it was the highest paying load he's ever gotten, and most of the time he barely has enough for cheese to make a blaoney and cheese sandwich. Way too many drivers have come here to TN after losing their shirts at Prime.
Thanks, but no. I was born at night...but it wasn't last night.
P.S. If you lease a truck from Prime...you are renting it...you aren't an owner-operator.

Answer:
Lets say, just for grins and giggles you did lease a truck from Prime,CRE or whoever. You were doing well, but now your dispatcher says "Things are slow, but make sure you run enough to cover your payment this month."
Well lets say, again for grins and giggles that Zigzag Freight Systems (sorry zig) wants you to come be an owner operator for him and he'll pay you a lot more than Prime!
You'd call him right up and head on over, right? Afterall you are an owner operator, right?
Wrong. Prime keeps their truck and finds another dreamer to rent it from them.

Answer:
Prime is a wonderful company, boe, and they have pretty trucks and trailers. trucking is what YOU make of it, and a positive attitude is all you need to succeed at Prime or any other company.

Yeah. Even when you ask about some else, you still get the anti-leasing answer.

I have a feeling he said that b/c he could tell that You are Only Seeking to hear(read) What You WANT.
