Indy area tuttor wanted....
Question:
Ok…I am in need of some extra training/instruction in order to pass my CDL driving test for the state of Indiana. Specifically I need some work on double clutching and backing exercises. I do not want to have to go to another CDL school for 3 weeks and pay in excess of $3000 for the minimal amount of practice that I need. (The one I attended was terrible with little driving time.) I have already passed the written part of the exam and do in fact have my CDL learner’s permit. I have called around to some schools and only found one that offers private instruction (CDL Plus – Ft Wayne). They charged $400 a day but could not get me in until late August. So…long story short…I thought I would offer those same rates to any driver that lives within 120 mile radius of Indianapolis who would be interested in training a student driver for a day, maybe two. It would be great if we could practice at an old abandon industrial parking lot with plenty of room. I could travel farther if needed. If interested email me at jimress@hotmail.com.

Answer:
Well hopefully O/O's answer. I would even recommend this on the O/O's page. Any company driver that allows you to drive could be in serious trouble should you bend a bumper or cause mechanical damage while learning to drive.
Company drivers have no ownership of the trucks they use. To allow another driver to use their vehicle could lead to all kinds of headaches or repair bills or termination or jail time or all of the above.
What has me a little confused is most schools are third party testers or provide a vehicle for the driving test. Didn't the school you attended have you take a road test for your CDL?
Other newbies & wannabes listen up, check out your school carefully and make sure they offer sufficent training to pass the road test. Ask what options they offer if you don't pass the Class A road test. I knew a student in 1992 that could not pass the road test the school ofered the student a Class B CDL. Lots of money for a Class B license.

Answer:
The school I attended was not a third party testing site. They contracted out the road driving and hence the shifting/double clutching part of the course to a third party testing site. There we basically got 2 days of of driving on the road to learn shifting, turning, and general driving instruction. Once that part was over it was over. There is no way of getting more driving time through them. You did get the use of that truck to do your road test but if you needed more time on the road there was no way to get it.
I understand how to double clutch I just need more time to practice it. I took the road test once and passed the backing/parking and pretrip inspection but the failed the double clutch part of it on the road. That is why I would like more experience in that area before I try to retest.
My thinking now is just to go a company school and eat the cost of this school.

Answer:
Give them a call (1-800-447-7433). They have a terminal at Indianapolis. You sign a one year committment and get on with it. You should have an advantage over most of your classmates.

Answer:
would be U.S.Express because they have automatic transmissions. You use the clutch pedal only when starting from a dead stop and coming to a dead stop.
