Dressing for the "occasion"
Question:
Winter time now! Dress warm! Dress in layers! Carhartt's (and the like), go a long way to keep you warm! BUY THEM! Flannel shirts & long johns go a long long way! BUT!!!!! Joe Answer: put sweat pants on underneath your baggy pants. Wear a sweatshirt over your flannel shirt. Forget the form fitting designer wear. The old, cheap, gray, baggy sweats work best. Believe it or not mittens work better than gloves for keeping your hands warm. Look for mittens and gloves with "Thinsulate". The idea of layers is to trap air around your body. Your body heats the trapped air and it acts like warm insulation. Do not drink alcohol. Alcohol consumption will cause you to lose more body heat all the while you think you are warm. Put one whole package in each shoe. Be forewarned you may need one size larger pair of boots. The idea of layers is to trap air around your body. Answer: Originally posted by Hoss: Buy a decent pair of insulated work gloves If you are in the Coastal Mountain zones like I am, you will need three pairs of insulated gloves. The reason is that the coastal snow is superwet, and chaining up you get then soaked easy. Once you have them soaked and are finished doing what ever it is your doing, put the gloves on the passanger side floor and shoot some heat on them to dry. Now you have two extra pair to use while those are drying out. Trust me when I say that wet frozen fingers dont work. BUMP! Westline264 - What was that? Hoss - A Vneck. Also extra canned fruit/snacks just in case. Insulated boots with Thinsulate are a must. I also put in a small 10# bag of cat litter for when you park for the night and the warm drive tires melt down into the packed snow and then freeze. --> Hence my quote: Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it! _________________ Better to have it and not need it as need it and not have it! Answer: I also put in a small 10# bag of cat litter for when you park for the night and the warm drive tires melt down into the packed snow and then freeze Uh .. ever think of waiting ten minutes for the tires to cool and moving the truck a few inches? (One of the oldest tricks known to drivers!) btw, if those tires DO freeze into the ice, you will NOT get moving on your own, 600hp, or not! Answer: I have to go along with keeping the feet and hands warm. I loaded Christmas trees las Monday. It was around 19 out and windy. I put on my big heavy jacket. That thing will keep you warm. My boots and socks did a good job also. But my cheap gloves didn't. My hands froze. I had to keep getting in the rtruck and laying my hands on the heater vent. So now I have a new pair of thick warm gloves. I did see alot of drivers dressed as if it was a just a cool day and not cold. Most were shivvering by the time they got back to the office to get their papers. I may have looked funny ina big jacket but I was warm. --> "There is just something about fresh winter snow and a river. Member: Happy Dweller Society Team Driver Division _________________ RC Universe Answer: Bleach..... for the drives, but don't use it unless you really have to, Kitty Litter....traction stuff, an Army Artic grade sleeping bag....its rather cold in places like Wyoming and such in the winter - especially when you break down- a blanket just won't get it when your engine is dead, sterno for heat and to heat water for coffee - just don't use yellow snow.... and don't strain it through your panty hose - sterno kills too many brain cells (or so a wino told me). Insulated boots - Rocky brand that are also water proof and heavy socks. Sweatsuits, long sleeved t-shirts, and long knit pants. 12V pots and pans, food thats easy to cook. Spare flashlight batteries, a shovel, a spare CB, water bottles. Oh also, since I buy all my food in stores.... I don't have to worry about truck stop food poisoning either..... or parking there.... Oh, yes...I also carry an AT&T cell phone that works just about everywhere... ------------------------- Have fun, be safe, and remember - the driver to watch the closest is the one behind the one in front of you!! Answer: If your company issues you chains..... learn how to mount them, and the right way to do it. Yeah, I'll tell you how to do it if you don't know how when the sign is up.....but I'll probably call your company later and tell them your trainer was a dumbass... Trust me....if you don't know how to mount your chains..... you're in trouble. ------------------------- Have fun, be safe, and remember - the driver to watch the closest is the one behind the one in front of you!! Monty the only way this would happen is if your were 8 inches into the ice. But if your are sunk an inch or two you will spin and not climb out of the rutts. BUMP! Westline264 - What was that?
